Installing the Linksys USB3GIG

Installing the Linksys USB3GIG USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter is simple using the setup wizard from the Linksys website or the setup CD that came with the adapter.  

Make sure that you have admin privileges before you start setting up the adapter and that your computer meets the minimum system requirements listed below:
  • An available USB 2.0 or 3.0 port
  • A computer with any of the following compatible operating systems:
  • Windows®
  • Windows 10 (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • Windows 8.1 (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • Windows Vista® (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • Windows XP (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • OS X®
  • OS X Sierra 10.12
  • OS X El Capitan 10.11
  • OS X Yosemite 10.10
  • OS X Mavericks 10.9
  • OS X Mountain Lion 10.8
  • OS X Lion 10.7
  • Chrome OSâ„¢
  • A CD or DVD drive, if you are installing the adapter using the setup CD

Step 1:
Plug in the adapter to a USB port on your computer.

Step 2:
Download the Setup Wizard for PC from the Linksys USB3GIG Downloads page.  For step-by-step instructions on how to do this, click here.

Step 3:
Open the drive where you saved the wizard.  Locate the file folder and then double-click on Setup.exe.

If you are installing the adapter using the setup CD, insert the CD in your computer and open the CD drive’s folder.  Then, double-click on USB3GIGV1.

NOTE:  When a Windows User Account Control prompt pops up to ask you if you want to allow the program to make changes to your computer, click Yes.


Step 4:
Wait while wizard prepares for the setup.

Step 5:
Click Next > to begin the setup.

Step 6:
Click Install.

Wait while the wizard installs the adapter.

Step 7:
Click Finish.

The adapter is now installed.  You may restart your computer right away or at a later time.
 
OS X 

Step 1:
Plug in the adapter to a USB port on your Mac.

Step 2:

Download the Mac OS® Driver from the Linksys USB3GIG Downloads page.  For step-by-step instructions on how to do this, click here.

Step 3:

Open the drive where you saved the wizard and then click on USB3GIGv1_Installer.pkg.

Step 4:
On the Install Linksys USB3GIGV1 window, click Continue.

Step 5:
Read the Important Information and then click Continue.

Step 6:
On the Software License Agreement window, click Continue.

Once the Software License Agreement window appears, click Agree to continue the installation.

Step 7:
Click Continue.

Step 8:
On the Standard Install on "Macintosh HD" window, click Install.

Step 9:
You will be prompted to enter your Mac credentials to allow the installation.  Enter your Username and Password, and then click Install Software.

A pop up window will inform you to restart your computer once the software has finished installing, click Continue Installation.

Wait while the software installs the Linksys USB3GIG.

Step 10:
Click the Restart button to complete the installation.

The Linksys USB3GIG adapter is a Plug and Play device for computers with Chrome OS, it does not require a driver or setup software.
 
Step 1:
Remove the caps from the adapter.


Step 2:
Plug the adapter's 
USB connector
into an available USB port in your computer.
 
Step 3:
Conn
ect one end of an ethernet cable into the adapter’s RJ-45 port. 

Step 4: 

Connect the other end of the ethernet cable into the ethernet port of your router or switch.
 
QUICK TIP:  The adapter will only show as an available adapter if there is an active ethernet cable connected to it.  Also, the adapter will only work if it is detected by the computer as one of its peripheral devices.  One of the physical indications that the adapter is recognized by the computer is by checking the light on the adapter.  If the light does not turn ON or indicate activity, try plugging the adapter into a different USB port on your computer or device.
