When you are outside of your wireless network's range and you try to access the Internet using your iPhone®, the Ask to join networks feature will prompt you to look for another wireless network within its reach. If this feature is disabled, you have to manually join a network in case a previously used network is not available.
This article will guide you on how to configure the Ask to join networks feature on your iPhone®.
On the Home screen, tap Settings.
Enable Wi-Fi and turn ON the Ask to Join Networks feature.
The screen will then display the list of networks available that you can connect to.
