How to automatically update the firmware ofthe Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers

Benefits of keeping updated

Upgrading the firmware of your router allows you to fully enjoy its complete features.  It is especially important to update the firmware when installing your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers for the first time to prevent a notification from prompting when you access some of the router and network settings again.

Ways you can keep your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers' firmware updated:

•   Using the Check for Updates button
•   Enabling Automatic update

QUICK TIP:  Alternatively, you can opt for a manual update of your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers by downloading the firmware and uploading it to the router.  For details on how to manually update the firmware of the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers, click here.

IMPORTANT:  For Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers that have USB port/s at the back, make sure to disconnect device/s (e.g. printer, hard drive, USB storage) from the router before the upgrade process.

NOTE:  The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router, EA6500 is used here as an example.

Using the Check for Updates button

Step 1:
Log in to your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account.  Once the web interface opens, click Connectivity.

NOTE:  If you don't have a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account, click here for instructions on how to access your router's settings without logging in to a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account.

Step 2:
Under the Firmware Update section, click Check for Updates.

Step 3:
Once the router detects a firmware update, you will be able to download and install the firmware on your device.  Select the Click here link to upgrade.

NOTE:  If the No updates found message is displayed, it is an indication that your router has the latest firmware version.

Step 4:
On the Update firmware pop-up box, click Yes.

Your router will start updating the firmware.

NOTE:  During this process, it is important that you do not power OFF the router or close the browser window to avoid corrupting the firmware of your router.

QUICK TIP:  In cases wherein you're having issues with the firmware update and a prompt to try again later appears, the server may be slow or not available for the moment.  Try performing the upgrade process again to resolve the issue.

Step 5:
A Router Reboot screen will pop up.  Click Ok to continue.

NOTE:  The router reboot process usually takes a few minutes.

Step 6:
Once the firmware upgrade is successfully completed, click Ok on the Firmware update complete screen.
