The Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the new generation protocol to succeed the current protocol version, Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4). IPv6 was created to address the concern about the shortage of IPv4 addresses available. It also adds many improvements to IPv4 in areas such as routing and network auto-configuration. This article will guide you on how to configure the IPv6 and 6rd Tunnel function on your Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900.
To configure the IPv6 setup and 6rd Tunnel function of your Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900, make sure that you have the following information from your Internet Service Provider (ISP):
QUICK TIP: Not all Linksys Wireless-N routers are IPv6 compliant. Click here for the list of devices that support IPv6. To know how to verify if your system is capable of IPv6 connectivity, click here.
Access the router’s web-based setup page using the Linksys Connect software. To learn how, click here.
Once in the web-based setup page, click the IPv6 Setup sub-tab.
Select Disabled for the IPv6 - Automatic under Internet Connection Type.
NOTE: The IPv6 - Automatic section is set to Enabled by default. This allows you to use IPv6 automatically for all network addresses.
QUICK TIP: The DUID or the DHCP for IPv6 Unique Identifier section displays the IPv6 DHCP value that the router automatically generates.
NOTE: The 6rd Tunnel allows your router to send IPv6 IP addresses over IPv4 networks. You may select Disabled, Automatic Configuration, or Manual Configuration in the 6rd Tunnel drop-down menu.
Enter the 6rd Tunnel information in the required fields if you selected Manual Configuration.
You should have configured the IPv6 setup and 6rd Tunnel function of your Linksys Wi-Fi Router, E900 now.
