1.  What is the Linksys RE7000 Max-Stream™ AC1900+ WiFi Extender?
 
The Linksys RE7000 Max-Stream™ AC1900+ Wi-Fi® Extender with 802.11ac technology can easily extend your WiFi to hard-to-reach locations in your home such as your backyard, garage, or bedroom so you can get WiFi to smartphones, tablets, and laptops.  The Linksys RE7000 also offers the option to use it as a wired range extender (Access Point mode) or a wireless range extender (Range Extender mode).  To know more about this product, click

The power consumption of your Linksys RE7000 is as follows:
  • Maximum power consumption 10W at AC input
  • Standby power consumption 3.5W at AC input
 
SETUP & INSTALLATION

1.  How do I set up the Linksys RE7000?

You can set up the Linksys RE7000 from a web browser.  To learn how to set up the Linksys RE7000 as an Access Point, click here.  To learn how to set up the Linksys RE7000  on Range Extender mode, click here.    

2.  Can I set up the Linksys RE7000 using a smart mobile device?
 
Yes.  Any mobile device or wireless computer can be used to set up the Linksys RE7000.


3.  What is the default IP address and password of the Linksys RE7000?

If the Linksys RE7000 does not detect a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server in your network and has not obtained an IP address from a router, its default IP address is 192.168.1.1.  The default password is admin.

4.  What are the two setup modes of my Linksys RE7000?

The Linksys RE7000 can be set up in two modes.  These are:
  • Wired Range Extender Access Point mode (requires an ethernet cable connected to your existing network)
  • Wireless Range Extender mode 
 
5.  Can I manually set up my Linksys RE7000 to work on Access Point mode?

7.  How do I reset my Linksys RE7000?

Press and hold the Reset button of your Linksys RE7000 for 10 seconds to reset it to factory default settings.
 

8.  How do I identify what mode the Linksys RE7000 is in?

After setup, access the Linksys RE7000’s web-based setup page to view the updated top header name. 

 
  • If the Linksys RE7000 is on Access Point mode, the top header will read Dual Band Wireless Access Point.  
  • If it is on Range Extender mode, the top header will read Dual Band Wireless Range Extender.
 
9.  How do I switch from Access Point mode to Range Extender mode?

To switch to another mode, you will need to change this in the Basic Settings.  Click here for instructions.
 
FIRMWARE UPGRADE

1.  How do I upgrade the firmware of the Linksys RE7000?

WIRELESS CONNECTION & SECURITY


1.  Which wireless connection standards and frequencies are supported by the Linksys RE7000?

The Linksys RE7000 supported standards are 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11a, and 802.11ac.  It also supports the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies simultaneously.
 

2.  What wireless security modes does the Linksys RE7000 support?

The Linksys RE7000 supports Cross Band Technology for high-speed data transfer.  Below are the security settings supported on the Linksys RE7000.
  • Access Point mode supports WPA2™ Personal and WPA2/WPA™ Mixed Mode.
  • Range Extender mode supports WPA2 Personal, WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode and WEP.
NOTE:  WEP is no longer supported in the Access Point mode since it is not secure.  WEP is supported in the Range Extender mode to keep the compatibility with the upstream access point.

3.  Can I change the Extended Wireless Settings of my Linksys RE7000 while on Range Extender mode? 

Yes.  The Extended Wireless Settings feature of your Linksys RE7000 is the wireless link between the range extender and the wireless clients.  By default, the range extender follows the wireless settings of your router.  To learn how to change the Extended Wireless Settings of your Linksys RE7000, click here.
 

4.  What is Cross Band Technology and does my Linksys RE7000 support it?

The Linksys RE7000 supports Cross Band Technology.  This technology maximizes the simultaneous use of both bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) for high speed data transfer and uninterrupted streaming and gaming.  To get an overview of the manual settings of the Cross Band feature, click here.

5.  What is Spot Finder Technology?

The Spot Finder Technology determines the signal strength of your Linksys RE7000.  It lets you know if your Linksys RE7000 is too close or too far from your router.  The Spot Finder Technology is only available when your Linksys RE7000 is on Range Extender mode.

ADVANCED CONFIGURATION


1.  Does the Linksys RE7000 support Seamless Roaming?

Yes.  Seamless Roaming allows your supported device such as an iPad® or iPhone® to roam between a supported Linksys Max-Stream router or range extender products (make sure that the latest firmware is installed with Seamless Roaming support).  
 

2.  What other Linksys products support Seamless Roaming?

Seamless Roaming is a feature on all Linksys Max-Stream routers such as the Linksys EA9500.  A firmware update may be needed to add the Seamless Roaming support.  Check the product's Release Notes to know more.
 

3.  How do I enable Seamless Roaming?
 
There is no need to enable this feature as it is already part of the firmware.


4.  Are there any guidelines when using Seamless Roaming on my Linksys RE7000?

Yes.  For Seamless Roaming to work properly, make sure that the firmware of the Linksys RE7000 is updated with the Seamless Roaming support.
  • WiFi names or SSIDs must be the same
  • Must be on the same subnet
  • Must have the same security settings
  • If you are using two Linksys RE7000s, it is recommended to enable 802.11r (one as an Access Point and another as a Range Extender only).
  • The client device must also support Seamless Roaming (ex. on Androidâ„¢ devices, the option is called WiFi Roaming).  Check your device's manufacturer to make sure that this option is enabled.  Seamless Roaming works between WiFi to WiFi only and not 4G to WiFi when using a mobile device.

5.  Will the Seamless Roaming feature work with other non-Linksys extenders or wireless routers?

No.  Seamless Roaming will only work with the Linksys Max-Stream products.

7.  What is 802.11r?

The 802.11r is a proprietary implementation of IEEE 802.11r-2008 (fast BSS transition) on Linksys RE7000 to support Seamless Roaming.  When an 802.11r-compliant device such as iPhone roams from one Linksys RE7000 to another Linksys RE7000.  Seamless roaming can reduce the time to connect to a network using WPA/WPA2 Personal.

NOTE:  The 802.11r is supported only on Linksys RE7000 v1 and not on Linksys RE7000 v2.
 

8.  When would I need to enable 802.11r?
 
If there are two Linksys RE7000s in the network and one is set up as an Access Point and the other as a Range Extender, 802.11r that can support Fast BSS Transition for roaming from one Linksys RE7000 to another Linksys RE7000.

TROUBLESHOOTING
 

1.  I have changed the wireless settings of my existing wireless router, and now my Linksys RE7000 doesn't work.  Why does this no longer work?
 
Your Linksys RE7000 does not work because its wireless settings are no longer in sync with the router.  Change the wireless settings of the Linksys RE7000 in Range Extender mode to make it similar to what your router currently has in order to fix the issue.
 

2.  I have MAC filtering in my network.  Where can I locate the MAC address of my Linksys RE7000 to add to my MAC filtering list?
 
Access your range extender’s web-based setup page then go to Status > WLAN Statistics.  Use the MAC address labeled Seen by Upstream AP when your device is on Range Extender mode.  However, when the Linksys RE7000 is in Access Point mode, there is no display for this field as it is not needed since the product is wired into the network.


3.  Can I set up the extender using WPS to connect to my upstream router? 

Yes.  Setting up the extender using Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) is the quickest way to set it up if the router supports WPS pairing.  You will have to repeat the WPS process twice to connect each radio band separately since the WPS pairing sets up one band at a time.

4.  How do I connect the Linksys RE7000 to the upstream router that is using MAC filtering?

If the upstream router is using MAC filtering restriction, make sure to add the extender’s MAC address of both radios from the WLAN Statistics page in the Seen by Upstream AP when in Range Extender mode.  When the Linksys RE7000 is in Access Point Mode, there is no need to enter the MAC address for this field, since the extender will be wired into the router.
