Extending your wireless network coverage and speed using two Linksys RE7000 extenders

Scenario:

Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) provided an older router that does not have good Wi-Fi speed and coverage.

Solution:

Many ISPs provide single-band, 802.11n-based wireless routers which fall short in meeting the demand for greater Wi-Fi speed and coverage at home.  To resolve this, you can install a Wi-Fi range extender to get that increased speed and expanded wireless network coverage.  However, the speed provided by the range extender can be limited by the Wi-Fi speed of the router from the ISPs.  To address both speed and coverage issues without going through the hassle of replacing the ISP-supplied Wi-Fi router, you can purchase a pair of Linksys RE7000 Max-Stream™ AC1900+ Wi-Fi Range Extender.  One range extender will work as a Wi-Fi access point and the other as a Wi-Fi range extender.

Follow the steps below for setup instructions:

Step 1:
Connect the first Linksys RE7000 to an Ethernet port of the ISP router using an Ethernet cable.

Step 2:
Set up the first Linksys RE7000 as an access point.  For instructions, click here.

NOTE:  The first Linksys RE7000 that will function as an access point can replace the Wi-Fi feature of the ISP provided router.

Step 3:
Set up the second Linksys RE7000 as a range extender.  Click here to know how.

NOTE:  The second Linksys RE7000 will function as a wireless range extender which will extend the coverage of the first Linksys RE7000.

Having this pair of Linksys RE7000 extender will also enable Seamless Roaming experience, where real-time calls such as FaceTime® and Skype® will not be dropped while users roam from one range extender to the other.  For detailed information regarding this, click here.
