Using Site Survey on Linksys RE6400, RE6300, RE6700, RE6500, RE4100W, or RE3000W v2 range extenders

The Site Survey displays all the wireless networks within the range of the wireless range extender.  Follow the instructions below to learn how to use the Site Survey feature of the Linksys RE6400, RE6300, RE6700, RE6500, RE3000W v2, or RE4100W range extenders.

NOTE:  The examples below are from the Linksys RE6500 UI.

Step 1:
Open a browser to log in to the web-based setup page of your range extender.

QUICK TIP:  There are three (3) methods to log in:
  • Enter http://extender.linksys.com in the Address bar.
  • Enter the range extender’s IP address.
NOTE:   If your range extender is not yet configured, its default IP address is 192.168.1.1.  Once your extender is already configured you will need to look up the IP address in your router’s DHCP table.  To know how to do this, click here.
  • For RE6400, RE6300, and RE6700, enter http://RE6x00-xxx for Windows® users or http://RE6x00-xxx.local for Mac® users, where xxx are the last three (3) characters of the range extender's MAC address.
Step 2:
Under Wireless, click Site Survey.

  • Select - clicking the radio button beside the wireless network name (SSID) selects the SSID.
  • SSID - displays the name of available wireless networks.
  • GHz - indicates the radio band of available wireless networks.
  • Signal Strength - displays the relative position of the available networks within range by indicating the power of the wireless signal received.
QUICK TIP:  If no bar is displayed, the extender is located too far away from the router.  For optimum performance, place your extender near the router to keep the signal strength between 60% and 100%.
  • Security - displays the security type used by available networks.  If a network supports Wi-Fi Protected Setupâ„¢ (WPS), the WPS User-added image icon is also displayed.
