How to extend your router's range with a range extender

What is a Linksys range extender?

Having WiFi® at home enables you to connect wireless devices from wherever they are located in the house.  However, if you have a big house, there is a possibility that there will be WiFi dead spots or locations where there is poor or no signal from the wireless router.  Obstructions like walls, furniture and fixtures may also cause these dead spots.

The Linksys Range Extender is a device that will provide the solution when getting poor or no signal because it extends the wireless range of your main router.  It acts as a repeater for the wireless signal and a wireless bridge for wired devices at the same time.

How does it work?

A Linksys router's signal ideally reaches a certain distance indoors provided that there are very minimal or no obstructions in its path.  This decreases if there are obstructions like walls and furniture blocking the signal.

In the illustration above, the wireless router’s signal from the home office does not reach some of the devices in the living room.  Adding a Linksys range extender to the network will extend the wireless range because it repeats the signal, allowing it to reach the devices in the living room.
