Using the Linksys Range Extenders, RE6700, RE4100W, RE6500 and RE6500HG wireless music playback feature

The Linksys Range Extenders, RE6700, RE4100W, RE6500, and RE6500HG are four of the latest range extenders from Linksys.  These let you repeat the wireless signal of any access point or router in order to provide Internet connectivity to hard-to-reach areas through a wireless connection on either the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequency band.
 
These devices also boast of its wireless music playback feature.  The audio port lets you connect any 3.5 mm earphone and powered speaker.  The RE6700, RE4100, RE6500, and RE6500HG allow you to stream music on your network and play it on the speakers through the audio port.

The following is a list of media players supported by the RE6700, RE4100W, RE6500, and RE6500HG:

 
  • Windows users can stream music with Windows Media Player 12, foobar2000, XBMC, and WinDVD.​​
  • Mac® users can stream music with proprietary software or the SofaPlay, XBMC, SongBook, and OPlayer.
  • Androidâ„¢ users can stream music with mediahouse, upnplay, skifta,ArkMC, bubbleUPnP, pixel media controller, 2Player 2.0, and Mediamonkey.
  • iOS devices including iPhone®, iPad® or iPod® can stream music with proprietary software or other apps such as Plugplayer, media:connect, ArkMC, Smartstor Fusion Stream, Mconnect, and DK UPnP/DLNA.
  • The extender supports MP3, FLAC, WAV, WMA, and AAC file formats, as long as those formats are supported by the device and the app doing the streaming.
NOTE:   This list is subject to change when new software or mobile apps are released in the market.
