Overview of the Network Administration settings of the Linksys app

Use the Network Administration section of the Linksys app to change the router password, check detailed information on all your connected nodes or routers (model number, serial number, and IP details), and more. Settings will vary by model.

This section provides a list of your nodes/routers in the network. The numerical value is a sum of nodes/routers that are part of the network. Tap on this section to view the list and access other settings.



Also known as a Parent node, is the node connected to your modem or internet source.

Tapping on the Parent node will view the following:



  • Serial number, Model number, Firmware version
  • LAN and WAN (Internet) IP address


Child node

A child node is a node that is being used to extend your network, wired or WiFi. As you add child nodes to your network, they will be named Child node 1, Child node 2, and so on. 

Tapping on a child node will view the following:


  • View the node the child node is currently connected to.
  • Signal Strength
  • Displays the Serial Number, Model Number, and current Firmware Version.
  • Displays the LAN IP address. 


Offline child node - When a child node shows offline, you can tap on it for furtherinstructions to help you with troubleshooting.


For child nodes that are no longer part of the network, you can tap on Remove node from the network. This will remove the node permanently.


Tap on Remove this node to confirm this action.



Tapping on Settings will view the following:


Note that settings may vary by model.

Node NameTo change the name of a node, tap on Node Name, then select a node. Enter a new name and tap on Save.


Blink node light 

The Blink node light feature is only supported on Linksys Cognitive Mesh products. This option can be useful for identifying a node in your network.
  • If the Linksys app is closed.
  • If you move away from the Nodes page of the app
  • After 20 seconds (If you have not identified the node after it stops blinking, just tap on the Blink node light again.)
  • To use this feature, tap on Blink node light, the light on the node will blink for about 20 seconds. Once you have identified the node, tap on Stop Blinking
  • The light will stop blinking when:
  • The Linksys app is closed
  • You move away from the Nodes page of the app
  • 20 seconds have elapsed 
Node LightLinksys Cognitive Mesh products:

Linksys Velop Cognitive Mesh products have a Night mode feature. When enabled, all the nodes' status lights in the same network will turn OFF from 10 pm - 6 am. To enable this feature, tap on Node Light, then toggle the button to the ON position.

Automatic Firmware Update

To make sure that your nodes are always up to date with the latest firmware, make sure the toggle button is set to the ON position as shown below.



Change Router Password and Hint

Tap on this section to change your router password and hint.



  • The router password is shared across all nodes in your network.
  • This router password is useful if the Linksys cloud is unavailable. You can use it to log in to your network through the Linksys app using the local admin password.

It is recommended that you change your router password. If you are asked for a recovery key, it is located on the product label at the bottom or the back of your node.

Time Zone

Displays the current time zone. Tap to change the time zone if needed.



IP details

This section will provide the following:
  • Connection Type
  • IP Address
  • IPv6 Address
  • LAN IP Addresses of all the nodes in the network

HomeKit Integration

For Linksys WHW03 and MX4200 models only. When you have linked your network to the Apple® Home app via the Apple HomeKit™ Integration menu and you need to turn OFF the feature, just toggle to the OFF position.




When working with a Linksys support agent, if you are requested to send logs for troubleshooting purposes, you can go to the Diagnostic section and tap on Send network logs.


Restart Network

Tap to restart your entire network.
