Configuring a VLAN on the Linksys Managed Switch

The Linksys Managed Switches namely, LGS528, LGS528P, LGS552, and LGS552P, are designed for customers who need enhanced Security and advanced QoS.  The LGS528P and LGS552P have built-in PoE+ feature that allows networking devices such as network hubs, IP phone, and IP cameras to be located anywhere without the need for AC outlets.
 
This article will provide you the instructions on how to configure a VLAN on the Linksys Managed Switch.

Creating a new VLAN
 
Step 1:
Access the managed switch’s web-based setup page.  To know how, click here.
 
Step 2:
On the setup page, click the Configuration tab.
 

Step 3:
On the Configuration tab, click VLAN Management and under VLAN Management, select VLANs.


Step 4:
Click .

Step 5:
On the VLAN page, set the following:
 
i. VLAN - Select Single or Range of VLANs.
ii. VLAN ID - Enter the desired VLAN ID.
iii. VLAN Name – Enter the desired VLAN Name, if needed.
 
 

Step 6:
Click Apply.

You have now created a new VLAN.

QUICK TIP:  You can also enable the Guest VLAN feature of the Linksys Managed Switches.  To do this, go to Security > Network access control > Feature Configuration.  Then, enable Guest VLAN, select a VLAN ID, and click Apply.
 

Step 1:
Click VLAN Management and then under VLAN Management, select Interfaces.


Step 2:
Select an Interface and click the Edit button to define the relevant fields.  In the example below, Port is selected.


Step 3:
Select Access or Trunk for the Interface VLAN Mode and enter the VLAN ID in the PVID field.

 

Step 4:
Click Apply to save the Interface modifications.

You have now modified the VLAN ports settings.

Assigning VLAN membership to ports

Step 1:
Click VLAN Management > VLAN Memberships.
 

Step 2:
Select a VLAN ID and the Interface Type (Port or LAG).

 
Step 3:
Click Search to display or to change the port characteristic with respect to the VLAN.  When done, click Apply.  

Step 4:
Select or remove the ports you need as part of the current VLAN selected in the VLAN ID menu.  

 
Step 5:
Click Apply when done.
 
You have now assigned VLAN membership to ports.
 
QUICK TIP:  To display a summary list of all the interfaces click VLAN Management > Interfaces.
