Checking the Linksys Gateway’s LEDs

The Linksys Gateway’s front panel indicates the status of the connection.  The lights at the front panel are:

  • Power
  • Internet - Cable
  • Internet - Activity
  • Ethernet (1, 2, 3, or 4)
  • USB
  • Wireless

To check the ADSL gateway’s LEDs, follow these steps:

Step 1:
Make sure that the Power LED is lit.

NOTE: If the Power LED is blinking, you need to reset the gateway’s firmware.  For instructions, click here

Step 2:
Make sure that the Internet - Cable LED is lit.

NOTE: If the Internet – Cable LED is blinking, it means that the Cable gateway is going through its startup and registration process.

Step 3:
Make sure that the Internet - Activity LED is lit.

NOTE: If the Internet – Activity LED is blinking, it means that data is being sent and received through the Cable gateway interface.

Step 4:
Make sure that the numbered port (1, 2, 3 or 4) is lit.

NOTE:  If the numbered port (1, 2, 3 or 4) is not lit, make sure that the computer is powered ON.  You can also try connecting the computer to the gateway using another working Ethernet cable.

Step 5:
Make sure that the USB LED is lit when a computer is connected to the USB port of the Cable gateway and the drivers are installed.

NOTE:  If the USB LED is blinking, it means that the cable is connected but the drivers are not installed properly.  If you’re using a wireless gateway, make sure that the Wireless LED is lit.
