Installing the Cable Modem on Windows XP

The Cable, Ethernet, and USB ports are located at the back of a Linksys modem.  The cable line and computer will be connected to these ports.  The Cable Line should be connected to the Cable port and the computer should either be connected to the Ethernet or the USB port.

To setup a Linksys Cable Modem you need to perform two steps:

i. Connecting the Devices Together
ii. Installing the USB Driver

Connecting the Devices Together

Step 1:
Connect the coaxial cable from the wall with Cable service to the CABLE port of the modem.

NOTE:  If the image above is not similar to the one you are using please refer to your documentation.

Step 2:
Make sure that the power adapter is plugged in to an available power outlet.

Step 3:
Connect the USB cable to the USB port at the back of the modem then connect the other end to the USB port of the computer.

Step 4:
Power ON the modem.  After connecting the devices together, install the USB driver.  For instructions, follow the steps below.

Installing the USB Driver

Step 1:
Power ON the computer.

Step 2:
On the Hardware Update Wizard window, click Install the software automatically (Recommended). Click Next.

Step 3:
Click Finish to complete the installation of the USB Cable Modem.
