1.  What is the LNR0208C 2-Bay Network Video Recorder?
 
The Linksys LNR0208C 2-Bay Network Video Recorder is a standalone network video recorder (NVR).  It is a digital surveillance recording system that combines recording and storage in one device.  With the LNR0208C, you will not need additional software to install your NVR.  The LNR0208C provides you with the following features:

2.  What is a standalone NVR?

A standalone NVR is a digital surveillance recording system that combines recording and storage in one device.  You don’t need an extra software running on a computer to operate a standalone NVR since it already has a built-in Linux operating system.
 
3.  What are the advantages of using a standalone NVR over a computer-based NVR?
 
The following are some of the advantages when using a standalone NVR over a computer-based NVR:
  • It is more efficient in terms of cost and performance as compared to a computer-based network video recording system since it combines both the recording and storage function in one device.
  • The operating system is Linux-based so you don’t have to worry about viruses and unexpected system failures.
  • No extra software installation is needed to set up the NVR.
  • Provides lower power consumption than a computer-based NVR which will save you from high electricity bills. 
4.  What are the parts of the LNR0208C 2-Bay Network Video Recorder?
 
The following are the parts of the LNR0208C:
  • LED indicators for LAN, eSATA, HDD1, HDD2

The LEDs on the LNR0208C indicate the activity and status for its assigned part.  For example, the HDD1 and HDD2 LEDs indicate the current status of the first and second hard disk drive using different colors.

SETUP & INSTALLATION
 
1.  How do I set up the LNR0208C 2-Bay Network Video Recorder?
 
Setting up the LNR0208C is easy since you won’t need additional software for installation.  All you need is the LNR0208C 2-Bay Network Video Recorder, and a computer or laptop with the following minimum system requirements:
  • Operating System:  Microsoft Windows 7 and 8 (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • Processor:  Intel® Dual Core CPU 3.0 GHz or faster
  • Independent Video Card
  • 4 GB RAM or more
  • LAN Adapter:  Gigabit Ethernet connection
  • Sound card (required for audio function)
  • Monitor - 1024 x 768 pixels or more, 24-bit True color or better
  • Browser:  Internet Explorer v9, Google Chrome v31, Opera v18, or later.
  • Firefox v25 and Safari® v5.1 or later version will be supported it via firmware upgrade. 

2.  How do I install the required ActiveX plug-in for Internet Explorer and Chrome?

When you log in to the LNR0208C's web user interface, the user is prompted to save a setup file and run it which includes the ActiveX plug-in.

Using Internet Explorer:

 
Step 1:
Access the web user interface of the LNR0208C by entering the device’s IP address on a web browser.
 
NOTE:  The default IP address of the LNR0208C is 192.168.1.253 if it is not connected to a DHCP server.  Otherwise, use the IP address assigned by the DHCP server.
 
Step 2:
Enter the device’s username and password then click Log in.
 
NOTE:  The default username and password of the LNR0208C is admin.
 
Step 3:
You will be prompted to download and install the file Setup.exe.  After downloading, double-click the Setup.exe file, click Next and wait until the InstallShield Wizard finishes installing the NVR Control.
 
Step 4:
Restart the browser and log in to the NVR’s web user interface again.  This time, you will be prompted to install the NVR.cab file.  Click Install.
 
Step 5:
After installing the NVR.cab software, click Playback on the upper right corner of the screen.  You will be prompted to install another software with the NVRPlayback.cab file name.  Click Install.
 
Using Chrome:

 
Step 1:
Access the web user interface of the LNR0208C by entering the device’s IP address on a web browser.
 
NOTE:  The default IP address of the LNR0208C is 192.168.1.253 if it is not connected to a DHCP server.  Otherwise, use the IP address assigned by the DHCP server.

Step 2:
Enter the device’s username and password then click Log in.
 
NOTE:  The default username and password of the LNR0208C is admin.
 
Step 3:
A pop-up message will appear saying, “The LiveView requires additional software to be installed and click the OK button to download the file.  Please install it and restart your browser.”  After downloading, double-click the file then click Next and wait until it finishes installing the NVR Control.
 
Step 4:
Restart the browser and log in to the NVR’s web user interface again.  This time, you will be prompted to install the NVR.cab file.  Click Install.
 
Step 5:
A pop-up message will inform you that the NVR ActiveX hosting needs your permission to run.  Click Always run on this site.
 
Step 6:
After installing the NVR.cab software, click Playback on the upper right corner of the screen.  You will be prompted to install another software with the NVRPlayback.cab file name.  Click Install.
 
NOTE:  The Firefox browser is not supported by the LNR0208C.

Upgrading the firmware of your LNR0208C 2-Bay Network Video Recorder is needed to improve the current performance of your device and fix the issues that the previous firmware version may have.  
 
ADVANCED CONFIGURATION
 
1.  How do I backup the video files on the LNR0208C?
 
To backup the data on the LNR0208C, press and hold the BACKUP button for three (3) seconds.  You will hear a beep after doing this.
 
2.  How do I set up a generic RTSP and MJPEG in the LNR0208C?
 
The generic RTSP/ MJPEG parameters can be set up in the camera's settings page.  
 
3.  What are the network services supported by the LNR0208C 2-Bay Network Video Recorder?
 
The following network services are supported by the LNR0208C:
  • DDNS Service
  • NTP Server
  • Static IP, DHCP & UPnP Search
  • Windows Networking and FTP Service 

4.  What is the video file naming rule used by the LNR0208C 2-Bay Network Video Recorder?
 
The file naming rule used by the LNR0208C incorporates the following data into the file name in exact order:
  • Date of recording
  • Recording period (time)
  • Camera IP address
  • Camera channel 
An example of this would be: 20120919-095733-100000_192.168.1.152-CH1
 
Date of recording: 20120919
Recording period (time): 09:57:33-10:00:00
Camera IP Address: 192.168.1.152
Channel: Channel 1
 
5.  How many administrators can log in at the same time?
 
Only one administrator can access at a time.
 
6.  What is Hot Swap?

The Hot Swap design allows users to replace a failed HDD without turning OFF the server.  This feature is supported on RAID1/RAID5 only.
 
7.  How can I stop or disable the Buzzer sound?
 
Press the USB Backup button on the front for one (1) second to stop the buzzer sound.  To disable this feature, go to System > Buzzer and disable the option.
 
8.  Can I create shares or other folders once my drives are set up?
 
No.  The NVR has preconfigured shares where recordings of the camera are saved.
 
9.  Where can I change the location of the Snapshots or AVI files?
 
On the device’s web user interface, click Playback then select the Settings button.
 
TROUBLESHOOTING
 
1.  How do I reset the LNR0208C 2-Bay Network Video Recorder to factory defaults?

There are two (2) ways to reset the LNR0208C:
  • Using the Reset button – Press and hold the Reset button for three (3) seconds.  You will hear a beep after this then the device will powercycle by itself.
  • Through the web user interface – Log in to the LNR0208C’s web user interface and go to Management > Back Up and Restore > Restore tab.  Tick the Reset to Factory Default option then click Apply.
2.  What should I do when the camera is showing a disconnected status & stops recording?
 
You can perform two (2) things:
 
Check the camera connection
  • Check first if the camera power is ON or the POE switch is running properly.
  • If the power is ON, try to log in to the camera page to check if the IP address is correct. 
Check the disk information
  • If the camera power and IP address are all correct, go to Disk Management to double check if the disk is in active status.
  • If it is inactive and degraded, please remove the RAID and create one again.
3.  Why am I not able to playback an event recording?
 
To playback event videos, please select the type first, before starting.  The default playback video type is normal (always recording) video.
 
4.  How can I tell if my camera is recording?
 
The camera is recording if you notice a red bullet on the top right corner of the camera box or by checking the camera status on the LNR0208C’s web user interface.  Log in to the LNR0208C’s web user interface and go to IP Camera > Camera Status.

5.  I can't access my shared drives in the network after a reset or after configuring my NVR.  What should I do?
 
To enable access to the shared drive, you should first log in to NVR and enable Windows File Sharing in Disk Management > File Sharing Management > Network Sharing then click Enable.  When you reset the NVR, by default this option is disabled.

6.  What should I do when I have finished configuring my NVR but I can't seem to access the drive through the network?
 
To access the drive through the network, you must enable network sharing in the web user interface first.  Log in to the LNR0208C’s web user interface and go to Disk Management > File Sharing Management > Network Sharing then click Enable.
 
7.  Why is my NVR not turning ON or OFF?
 
To power ON the LNR0208C, press and hold the Power button until you hear the fan power ON.  To power OFF, press and hold the Power button until you hear one beep then release.
 
8.  Why is the PTZ Panel dial grayed out on the Live View page?
 
The panel will activate when a camera that supports PTZ is added to the grid.  If the camera doesn't support it, the PTZ Panel is grayed out.
