HARDWARE INFORMATION

1.  What are the Linksys Managed Switches?

The Linksys Managed Switches namely, LGS528, LGS528P, LGS552, and LGS552P, are designed for customers who need enhanced Security and advanced QoS.  The LGS528P and LGS552P have built-in PoE+ feature that allows Power over Ethernet networking devices such as network hubs, IP phone, and IP cameras to be located anywhere without the need for AC outlets.

2.  What is the default IP address of the Linksys Managed Switches?

By the default the switch acts as a DHCP client.  If there is DHCP server in the network, the switch will default to IP address of 192.168.1.251.

3.  Do the Linksys Managed Switches support L3 Mode?

Yes, the Linksys Managed Switches support L3 Mode with up to 64 routes.  To change the L2 mode to L3 mode, select L3 mode on the reboot configuration page.

NOTE:  Changing modes will erase the configuration file.  You should make a backup of your configuration file should you need to restore it later if you ever need to change the switch back to L2 mode or vice versa.  To learn more about backing up your configuration file, click here.

4.  Can I access the Menu CLI via the Console Port?

Yes, you can access the Menu CLI via the Console Port.  For more information on accessing the Menu CLI via Console Port, click here.

5.  What is the DHCP Snooping feature?

The DHCP Snooping function differentiates between untrusted interfaces and trusted interfaces, which are connected to trusted DHCP server or switches.  DHCP snooping filters all the DHCP Messages from the untrusted interfaces and snoop the DHCP messages from the trusted interfaces.  By monitoring the trusted DHCP messages, it builds and maintains a DHCP snooping binding database, which can be used as IP source guard.

6.  Why does the system LED keep on blinking?

The System LED flashes when the device is acquiring an IP address.  If the LED has not stopped blinking, this is due to switch not detecting a DHCP server on the network, therefore it’s using the default IP address “192.168.1.251”.

QUICK TIP:  The system status LED changes to solid blue when a new unique IP address is received from the DHCP server or a static IP address has been set to it.

7.  When does the PoE max LED turn ON?

The PoE max LED will turn ON when the switch is providing more than 85% of its total PoE budget.  The LED gives the user a warning that the PoE Power is left 15% of total PoE budget available.

8.  How many users can I add on the Linksys Managed Switch?

You can add a total of six (6) users: one (1) admin and five (5) regular users.

CONFIGURATION

1.  Can I set up a VLAN on my switch?

You can set up a VLAN through the web-based setup page.  To learn more about setting up a VLAN, click here.

2.  How do I configure the QoS?

You can configure QoS using the options below  through the web-based setup page.  To know more, click here.
  • Queue Scheduling
  • Bandwidth Control
  • Basic QoS
  • Advanced QoS
To know more about the different QOS features of the Linksys Managed Switches, click here.

3.  How do I back up the configuration file?

The configuration file can be backed up by clicking Maintenance > File Management > Configuration & Log.  To learn more about backing up the configuration file click here.

4.  How do I save the configuration changes on the Linksys Management Switches?

Once you have configured or changed the settings of the switch, you should save the running config to the startup configuration.  Otherwise when you reboot the switch the changes will be lost.  To do this, go to Maintenance > Configuration File Copy and select Running config for Source and Startup config for Destination file.  You can also create a backup file of the Running config.  For more information on saving the configuration changes on the Linksys Managed Switches, click here.

5.  Can I enable both Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) and Short Reach function?

No.  The EEE field for the port is not available when the Short Reach Mode option on the port is enabled.

6.  Can I configure my switch via the web-based setup page?

Yes, configuring the Linksys Managed Switches can be done through the web-based setup page.  To learn more about configuring the Linksys Managed Switches via the web-based setup page, click here.

7.  Can I still access my switch if I change the management VLAN?

Yes, you can still access the switch after changing the management VLAN.  To access your device, the access port of computer has to be connected to the management VLAN.

QUICK TIP:  Before changing the management VLAN, ensure that the access port of your computer must also be connected to the new Management VLAN.  Otherwise, you may not be able to access your switch and have to perform a reset.

8.  How do I enable the Guest VLAN on the Linksys Managed Switches?

To enable the Guest VLAN on the Linksys Managed Switches you must first create a VLAN in the VLAN Management page.  After creating the VLAN, go to Security > Network access control > Feature Configuration, then enable Guest VLAN and select a VLAN ID and click Apply.  To learn more about creating a VLAN on the Linksys Managed Switches, click here.

TROUBLESHOOTING

1.  How can I reboot my Switch?

You can reboot the switch through the web-based setup page or by unplugging and re-plugging power adapter.  To learn more about rebooting the switch, click here.

2.  How do I reset my Switches to its factory default settings?

The switch can be set to factory defaults by pressing the reset button for over 10 seconds or through the web-based setup page.  To learn more about resetting the switch to its factory defaults, click here.

3. What can I do if I've forgotten the login password for the Linksys Managed Switch?

If you have lost or have forgotten the login password for your switch you would need to perform a reset.  For more information on resetting the switch, click here.

4.  How do I upgrade the firmware of my switch?

You can upgrade the firmware by HTTP/HTTPs mode or TFTP mode through web-based setup page.  To learn more about upgrading the firmware of your switch, click here.

5.  If the overall power demand of PoE devices is higher than the total PoE budget, could it damage the system?  How can the system be protected from overloading?

If the switch detects the power demand higher than the total PoE budget, it will stop to deliver to the low priority PoE ports until the demand power is less than the total budget.

NOTE:  There are three (3) PoE priorities: Critical (highest), High, and Low.  A PoE port can set the PoE Priority Level on the PoE Power Mode page.

6.  Why do the PoE devices reboot when I change the PoE Power mode Power Limit mode to/from Class Limit mode?

This is by design.  When a switch change the PoE power mode, the PoE modules need to reset the modules to change the power mode and reallocate the power budget.  Thus, it will turn OFF and ON all the PoE ports.

7.  How do I set the time on the Linksys Managed Switch?

To set the time on the Linksys Managed Switch you need to login to the web-based setup page, then go to Configuration > System Management > Time > System Time, and set the Manual Date/Time for the Managed Switch.
