When checking if your computer is properly connected to the Linksys router, you need to perform four (4) steps:
i. Checking the physical connection to the router
Make sure that the computer is connected to the Ethernet port of the router and the modem should be connected to the Internet port of the router. For instructions, click here.
ii. Checking the LEDs
The Linksys router’s front panel will indicate the status of the connection. After connecting the broadband modem to the WAN or Internet port, the computer to an available Ethernet port, and the router has been powered ON, check the LEDs at the front panel of the router. iii. Checking the IP address of the computer
The IP address of the computer is another indication that the computer is properly connected to the router. To know more about checking your computer's IP address, click here.
iv. Pinging the router
A ping test helps trace the communication between the computer and the router. The computer sends packets to the router and in return, the router sends out replies to validate the connection. To learn how to do this, click here.
NOTE: If your ping statistics do not have the reply Packets: Sent =4, Received =4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), the firewall may be blocking the replies. For instructions on how to disable the firewall on your computer, click on the links below:
