HARDWARE INFORMATION

1.  What is the Linksys EA8500 Max-Stream AC2600 MU-MIMO Smart Wi-Fi Router?

The Linksys EA8500 Max-Stream AC2600 MU-MIMO Smart Wi-Fi Router, is a 4x4 802.11ac MU-MIMO Gigabit Router with one (1) USB 3.0 port and a combo port eSATA/USB2.0.  It supports data rates up to 800 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and 1733 Mbps on the 5 GHz with a combined data rate speed of up to 2.53 Gbps.

2.  How do I reset the Linksys EA8500 to factory defaults?

There are two (2) ways in resetting the Linksys EA8500 to factory defaults:
  • Press and hold the Reset button located at the back panel of your router for 10 seconds.
  • Log in to your router’s web-based setup page, then go to Troubleshooting > Diagnostics and click Reset under Factory reset.
3.  How many USB ports does the Linksys EA8500 have?

The Linksys EA8500 has one (1) USB 3.0 port capable of supporting an external hard disk or flash drive with up to 1100 mA current draw and one (1) combo port USB 2.0/eSATA-II, capable of supporting an external hard disk or flash drive with up to 1100 mA current draw.

4.  How many antennas does the Linksys EA8500 have?

The Linksys EA8500 has four (4) external antennas.

5.  What is the recommended antenna position?

For single-story homes, all four (4) antennas should be pointing straight up.  For multi-story homes, two (2) of the antennas should be pointing straight up and the other two (any two) should be adjusted depending where you need the coverage and where you want the signal to radiate.

6.  What is the warranty period of your Linksys EA8500?

INITIAL SETUP

1.  How do I install the Linksys EA8500?

The Linksys EA8500 can be set up just like the other Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers.  To learn how, click here.

NOTE:  There is also an option to manually set up the Linksys EA8500 by logging in straight into the web-based setup page then tick the I want to skip Setup and configure my router manually option and click Next.

2.  What is the default IP Address and password to log in to the Linksys EA8500?

The default IP Address is 192.168.1.1 and the default password is admin.

WIRELESS SECURITY

1.  What is the default wireless network name (SSID) of the Linksys EA8500?

The default wireless network name (SSID) of the Linksys EA8500 is Linksysxxxxx for the 2.4 GHz network and Linksysxxxxx_5GHz for the 5 GHZ network.  The series of x represents the last five (5) digits of its serial number.

2.  What is the default Wi-Fi password?

The default Wi-Fi password is randomly generated and is located at the bottom of router.

3.  What wireless security modes does the Linksys EA8500 support?

Linksys EA8500 supports the following security modes:
  • WEP
  • WPA2™-Personal
  • WPA2™-Enterprise
  • WPA2™/WPA™-Mixed Personal
  • WPA2™/WPA™ Mixed-Enterprise
FIRMWARE UPDATE

1.  How do I update the firmware of the Linksys EA8500?

The Linksys EA8500 comes with the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi software that automatically updates the firmware as soon as a new one is available.  If you wish to manually update the firmware at your own time, you can uncheck the Automatic box on your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi software under Firmware Update then update the firmware manually.  For detailed instructions, click here.

2.  Will the Linksys EA8500 lose the settings that I have customized if I update its firmware?

No.  Your customized settings will not be lost unless you reset the router to factory defaults.

5.  What is the default Guest network password?

 The default Guest network password is BeMyGuest.

6.  Can I set a unique SSID for each Guest network?

Yes.

7.  How many guests can the Linksys EA8500 accommodate?

The Linksys EA8500 can support up to 50 guest clients.

4.  I have an external storage device, what do I do?

The two (2) available USB ports on your Linksys EA8500 are used for connecting external storage devices or printers.  Furthermore, you can use the External Storage Tool on the Linksys cloud account to easily manage the external storage device connected to it.  To know more about this feature, click here.


5.  My Parental Controls blocks HTTPS but returns a blank page instead of redirecting to the Parental Controls screen.  Is this a normal behavior?

Yes, for HTTPS this is by design.  Some HTTP sites that redirect to HTTPS will produce a blank screen as well.
