Troubleshooting low throughput issue of the Linksys Gigabit VPN Router, LRT2x4

Question:

My Internet Service Provider (ISP) gives me 50/10 Mbps for downstream/upstream, but my LRT router cannot seem to deliver the expected throughputs.  What can I do?

Solutions:

1. Check if there is no Bandwidth Management rule set on your LRT2x4 such as below figure.

On your router’s web-based setup page, go to Configuration > System Management > Bandwidth Management.

If you set Bandwidth Management rule and the network traffic matches that rule, your bandwidth might be limited.  For example, following settings limit the HTTP downstream to 900 Kbps.

2. When a Bandwidth Management rule is added and enabled, the value of the maximum bandwidth provided by your ISP will have effects.  You can modify it to fit the maximum bandwidth provided by your ISP.

3. Click on Configuration > Port Management > Port Setup on the LRT2x4 router’s web-based setup page and check the speed of each physical port.  Make sure the Auto Negotiation checkbox is checked so you can get 1.0 Gbps speed if your network interface card supports it.

4. Check the configuration of your network interface card.  It is also recommended to use Auto Negotiation.  Follow the steps below to learn how to check it.

Step 1:
On your computer, go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.

Step 2:
Click Ethernet.

5. Check if there is any P2P traffic that occupies the bandwidth.

6. If you have a Wi-Fi access point connected to the LRT2x4 LAN port and you get low network speed on your mobile devices, check the Wi-Fi configuration and signal strength of your access point and mobile devices.

7. Once you made sure there is no problem of your LRT2x4, contact with your Internet service provider and ask them to check the network link status.
