Setting up your Linksys ADSL/VDSL Dual-Band Wi-Fi Modem Router, X6200

The Linksys ADSL/VDSL Dual-Band Wi-Fi Modem Router, X6200 can be setup for either Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or Cable type of Internet connections.  It comes with an embedded Setup Wizard that provides a faster and simpler setup of your modem router.
 
NOTE:  The Setup Wizard is only compatible with DSL Internet service, if you have a Cable type Internet connection you would need to setup the modem router through its web based setup page.
 
Before you begin
 
The following requirements should be met to avoid any problems during the setup:

Browser requirements for router setup:
  • Internet Explorer® 11
  • Safari® 9
  • Latest version of Chrome and  Firefox®
Materials for setup – You should have the following items:
  • A computer with Windows XP SP3 or higher and OS X® Leopard v.10.5.8 or higher
  • Two (2) Ethernet cables
  • An active Internet connection
  • Connect the power adapter to the Linksys X6200 and plug into a power source
The Linksys X6200 can be setup for:

DSL
Cable

DSL

 
Step 1:
Connect the phone cable to the DSL port of the Linksys X6200.
 
NOTE:  Make sure the modem router is powered ON.

 
Step 2:
Connect an Ethernet cable from your computer to the yellow Ethernet port at the back of the Linksys X6200.
 
Step 3:
Launch a web browser and enter the IP address of the Linksys X6200 in the Address bar then press [Enter].
 
NOTE:  The default IP address of the X6200 is 192.168.1.1.  Enter admin for both username and password.
 
Step 4:
Go to the Quick Start tab and click on the Launch… button.
 
NOTE:  This will initiate the Setup Wizard.

 
Step 5:
In the Linksys X6200 Setup Wizard window, tick the checkbox “I have read and accepted the License Terms for using this software” then click Next to proceed.

Step 6:
Select your region, country, and ISP from the dropdown menus.  If your ISP is not listed as an option, tick the box My region or ISP is not on this list and click Next.

Step 7:
Enter the Account name and Password provided by your ISP and click Next.

Step 8:
Enter your desired Network Name and Password for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands and then click Next.

 
NOTE:  The Password is case sensitive write this down to connect your wireless devices.

Step 9:
Create a Router password and click Next.

Step 10:
Click Finish.

After completing the Setup Wizard go to Status and check if you have a valid connection.  If you need to change the settings go the Setup page then verify and update the settings as needed.

Cable

Step 1:
Remove the yellow sticker labeled Use for router-only setup located on the Cable port.
 
Step 2:
Connect one end of the power cable to the modem router, and then connect the other end to the power outlet. 

Step 3:
Attach one end of the blue Ethernet cable to the Cable port at the back of the modem router and the other end to the wall patch.  Connect your computer to the modem router using an Ethernet cable.
 
Step 4:
Launch a web browser and enter the IP address of the Linksys X6200 on the Address bar then press [Enter].
 
NOTE:  The default IP address of the X6200 is 192.168.1.1.  Enter in admin for both username and password.

 
Step 5:
Go to Setup and select Ethernet under Physical Type.

NOTE:  A warning prompt will appear, click OK.  Anytime you change the Physical Type setting, the modem router will reboot in order to apply the setting.

Step 6:
Configure the Internet settings as needed and click Save Settings.
