Setting up Parental controls on your Linksys ADSL/VDSL Dual-Band Wi-Fi Modem Router, X6200

If your children spend more time on the Internet more than they should, you can limit their Internet access by using the Parental Controls feature in the Linksys ADSL/VDSL Dual-Band Wi-Fi Modem Router, X6200.
 
Before you configure the Parental controls:
  • The time zone on your router should be set to the time zone of your current location.  This is to ensure that the Parental controls feature will block Internet access on the exact time you specified.  To learn more about changing the Time Zone Setting of the Gateway, click here.

Step 1:
Access the Linksys X6200’s web-based setup page.  For instructions, click here.
 
NOTE:  If you're using a Mac®, click here for instructions.
 
Step 2:
Click on the Access Policy tab then click the Enabled radio button.

Step 3:
Under Target Devices, click Add.

Step 4:
On the pop-up window that appears, select the devices that you want to set up with Parental Controls then click OK.  The devices that you selected will now show up under the Target Devices section.
 
NOTE:  The Mac address is listed next to name of the device.

QUICK TIP:  The Linksys X6200 will populate a list of devices that are connected to the network.  You can only set restrictions on devices that are included in the list.  You can click the Remove or Rename buttons if you wish to update the list.

Step 5:
Under Schedule, you may select Always or Specific times to restrict Internet access.  Take note of the following options for restricting Internet access according to specific times:
  • Always – This means that Internet access will be permanently blocked from the selected users.

  • Specific times – This option allows you to set an exact time range for blocking Internet access.  You can set restrictions both on school nights and weekends if you chose this option.  Each drop-down section has a start time range of 12 NN - 12 MN and an end time range of 12:30 AM - 11:30 AM.  You cannot set any time range beyond these given values.
Step 6:
Click User-added image.

Step 7:
If this is the first time you are setting up Parental Controls create a Parental Controls password when prompted.  Enter the Parental Controls password and re-enter the password to confirm and a Secret question with an Answer should you forget your Parental Control Password.  Otherwise just enter your existing Parental Controls password.

Step 5:
Enter the website address you want to block.
 
NOTE:  In this example, "www.facebook.com" will be blocked.

Since we only need to block specific sites, leave Block Internet Access to Never.

Step 6:
Click User-added image.

Step 7:
Enter your password on the Parental controls password and Verify password fields.
 
NOTE:  This password will be used if you want to edit or disable your Parental Control settings.

Step 8:
Enter a Secret question and its corresponding Answer.  Click OK to save the settings.
