The different types of passwords on your Linksys router

The Linksys routers are packed with different security features to protect your WiFi network and personal information or files from unauthorized access. This article is about the different passwords that your Linksys router has:

Router password/admin password
WiFi password/passphrase
Guest password
Linksys cloud account password

Router password/admin password

The router or admin password is used to access the web interface of your router for configuration, setting updates or verification. The default password for Linksys routers is admin. For optimum security, it is recommended to change this password during or after setup.

If you have lost or forgotten your router password, you will need to reset the router to factory default settings. To reset, press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds. For older router models such as the Linksys Wireless-B and G routers, press and hold the Reset button for 30 seconds. Once the router is reset, you will need to set it up again. For step-by-step instructions, choose from any of the following:

Linksys WiFi Routers (E-series or Wireless-G, B, and N)

Linksys Smart WiFi Routers

WiFi password/passphrase

The WiFi password or passphrase (also known as network security key) is different from the router or admin password. The router or admin password is used to log in to the router’s web interface for configuration or verification purposes while the WiFi password is used to connect WiFi devices to your WiFi or hotspot.

Computer’s operating system

Guest password

The Guest network is a feature of the router that creates a separate and secured network for guests. In order to connect to the internet, guests will be required to enter the Guest password once they open a web browser. The Guest password is different from that of the main WiFi network.
