Enabling AVI recording on the WVC80N

The Linksys WVC80N Wireless-N Internet Home Monitoring Camera can be set up to record videos using the 3GP, MPEG4, and AVI format.  This article will guide you in setting up the camera to record videos using the .avi format.

To set the WVC80N Wireless-N Internet Home Monitoring Camera to record videos in .avi format, do the following steps:

Step 1:
Enable file sharing on your Windows computer.

NOTE:  If you are using Windows 7, click here for instructions.  If you are using Windows Vista, click here.  If you are using Windows XP, click here.

Step 2:
Access the Wireless-N camera’s web-based setup page.  For instructions, click here.

NOTE:  The link provides steps on how to access the setup page of the Wireless-G camera which is also applicable to the Wireless-N camera mentioned in this article.

Step 3:
Ensure that the camera’s Current Date/Time is correct.

NOTE:  In case the Current Date/Time is different from the actual time, click Synch with PC.

Step 4:
Click Recording.

Step 5:
Check the Enable box, then click Browse.

Step 6:
Select the location where you want to save your .avi file to.

NOTE:  In most cases, videos are stored in a network-attached storage.  In this example, the selected location is PC Name.

Step 7:
Enter the Username and the Password for your network-attached storage then click OK to proceed.

Step 8:
Check the Enable adding timestamp to files box.

Step 9:
Select Start recording now, then click Apply.

You should have successfully enabled AVI recording for the WVC80N now.  To check the video’s file format, save a test video file then right-click the video file.  Click Properties then check the Type of file section.  It should say AVI.
