Configuring the MAC Filter feature of the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router using the local access interface

The MAC Filter feature of your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router is a wireless security option that will allow or prevent access to your wireless network aside from setting up a password.  If you have multiple routers, the MAC addresses saved on the first router should be manually configured and saved on the succeeding routers for all to have the same restrictions as the first router.

NOTE:  Enabling this option will disable the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ feature.

QUICK TIP:  MAC address filtering will still work on devices that connect to the Guest network.  However, every time an additional device tries to connect to your Guest network, you will have to manually add the MAC address of that device to your allowed list under the MAC Filter page so it can successfully connect to your network.  For more information about the Guest network, click here.

This article will guide you in configuring the wireless MAC Filter feature of your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router.

Step 1:
Access the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router's local access interface through a web browser by entering your router’s IP address or “myrouter.local” in the Address bar then press [Enter]. 
 
NOTE:  The IP address of the router is 192.168.1.1 by default.  If you have changed it, enter the new IP address instead.
 
Step 2:
When the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account login appears, click the local access link below the Sign In section.

Step 3:
Enter your Router Password on the space provided and click Log in.

NOTE:  Router Password is set to “admin” by default and is case-sensitive.

Step 4:
On the left navigation pane, click the Wireless Tool under Router Settings.

Step 5:
Click the MAC Filtering tab.

 

Step 6:
Tick the Enabled box.  When the Enabling MAC filtering will disable WPS.  Do you want to continue? prompt appears, click Yes to proceed.

 

Step 7:
Select among the Filter options that you want to set up:

NOTE:  In this example, the Deny access option is selected.

 

  • Deny access for the listed MAC addresses – Select this option if you want to create a list of MAC addresses that cannot access your network.  Any device whose MAC address is listed will not be permitted to connect to your network.
  • Allow access for ONLY the listed MAC addresses – Select this option if you want to limit access to your wireless network for certain devices.  Only the devices whose MAC addresses are listed will be allowed to connect to your network.  All other devices will be denied.

Step 8:
To specify the MAC address that you want to deny or allow access to your network, click Add MAC Address in the MAC Filter List section.

 

Step 9:
Enter the MAC Address of the computer or device that you want to deny or allow access to your network, then click Save.

 

NOTE:  You can Edit / Delete the MAC Address that you have entered.

 

QUICK TIP:  You can add up to 32 MAC Addresses where access on the network can either be allowed or denied on the MAC Filter List.  All MAC Addresses that will be added on the list will have the same access restriction depending on what Filter option you have selected in Step 6. 

Step 10:
Click Apply > Ok to save the changes.

You have now successfully configured the Mac Filter feature of your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router now.
