Setting up and connecting to a VPN on your iPhone®

Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are used by organizations for communication and access to private information securely over a non-private network.  This is commonly used to access work email and other work-related tools and sites.

This article will guide you on how to configure and connect an iPhone® to a VPN.

NOTE:  An iPhone® can connect to VPNs that use the L2TP, PPTP, or IPSec protocols.  VPN works on both Wi-Fi and cellular data network connections.

IMPORTANT:  Before you proceed, make sure to get the VPN account details first from your network administrator.

Step 1:
On the Home screen, tap Settings.

Step 2:
Select General.

Step 3:
Tap Network

Step 4:
Select VPN

Step 5:
Tap Add VPN Configuration.

Step 6:
Enter the settings provided to you by your network administrator like the Description, Server, Account, RSA SecurID and Password.  Set an Encryption Level if necessary then tap Save.

Step 7:
The name of the connection would automatically appear on the screen with a check mark beside it as soon as it is saved.  Slide the VPN switch ON and your iPhone® will automatically connect to it.

It will then show Connected on the Status and will display the running time of how long you have been connected to this private network.

As soon as you've successfully setup a VPN configuration, the VPN option will appear in the main Settings screen as well as the option to turn it OFF or ON.  There will be a VPN icon in the status bar each time you are connected to it.

QUICK TIP:  Slide the switch back to OFF position if you wish to disconnect from the VPN connection.

Your iPhone® should now be connected to the VPN.
