The Linksys LAPAC1750PRO Business AC1750 Pro Dual-Band Access Point provides continuous and high-speed access between wireless and Ethernet devices.  It is an advanced, standards-based solution for wireless networking in businesses of any size.  The access point (AP) enables wireless local area network (WLAN) deployment while providing state-of-the-art wireless networking features.
 
The LAPAC1750PRO works in Standalone Mode, which means it is an individual access point in your network.  You manage the device through a web-based setup page or Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

 
2. What default username and password are used to access the web-based setup page of LAPAC1750PRO?
 
The default username and password is admin.
 
3. What is the Ethernet port speed of LAPAC1750PRO?
 
The speed of both Ethernet ports is 10/100/1000 Mbps.
 
4. Is the LAPAC1750PRO dual-band concurrent?
 
Yes.
 
5. Does the LAPAC1750PRO support Power over Ethernet (PoE)?
 
Yes.  It has one PoE port and can be powered ON from an 802.3at compliant source.
 
6. How do I reset the LAPAC1750PRO to factory defaults?
 
To reset your LAPAC1750PRO to factory defaults, press and hold the Reset button up to 25 seconds.
 
Alternatively, you can also reset the LAPAC1750PRO by following these steps:

Yes, it comes with 12 V 1 A power adapter.
 
8. Can the antennas be replaced?
 
No.  It has three (3) internal dual-band antennas.
 
9. What LEDs does the LAPAC1750PRO have?
  • LED (Green) – The LED will blink green when the device is booting, and will be solid green when it is turned ON with no wireless device connected. 
  • LED (Blue) – The LED will blink blue when system upgrade is in progress, and will be solid blue when it is turned ON with at least one (1) wireless device connected.
  • LED (Red) – The LED will be solid when system is booting or update has failed.
10. What is the default host name?
 
The default host name of LAPAC1750PRO is lapxxxxxx where x are the last six (6) characters of the MAC address.
 
11. What is the default SSID?
 
The default SSID is LinksysSMB24G for the 2.4 GHz band and LinksysSMB5G for the 5 GHz band.
 
12. Does the LAPAC1750PRO support multiple SSIDs?
 
Yes.  It supports up to eight (8) SSID per radio.
 
13. How do I change the default admin password?
 
Access the web-based setup page, then go to Configuration > Administration > System Settings and enter your new password.
 
14. In the system status tab, what does the Edit link do?
 
The Edit link will redirect you to the appropriate page to make additional changes or update the settings for that specific section.
 
15. How can I change the channel of Radio 1 or Radio 2?
 
Access the web-based setup page, and then go to Configuration > Wireless > Radio.  When selecting 20/40MHz bandwidth, if you need to use the higher channels (chanels 8-11), you must select Upper for the  Primary Channel setting.
 
NOTE:  Default channels 1-7 are visible when the Primary channel is set to Lower.  To enable higher channels, change the Primary channels to Upper which you will then see channels 5-11.

 
16. How do I disable the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz radio?
 
Access the web-based setup page, then go to Configuration > Wireless > Radio.  Select the radio that want to disable then select the Disabled radio button.  Click Save.
 

SETUP & INSTALLATION
 
1. What is the default IP address of the LAPAC1750PRO?
 
The device acts as DHCP client by default which gets IP address from DHCP server.  If there is no DHCP server on your network, the device will roll back to default IP address 192.168.1.252 with 192.168.1.1 default gateway.
 
2. How do I access the web-based setup page of my wireless access point?

3. Is there a wall mount available for the LAPAC1750PRO?

4. When wall mounting the LAPAC1750PRO, can I use the bracket that came with the LAPAC1750?
 
No.  You must use the bracket that came with the LAPAC1750PRO as the bracket is a different design for ventilation.


WIRELESS CONNECTION & SECURITY
 
1. What type of wireless security does the LAPAC1750PRO use?
 
The supported wireless security settings are WPA/WPA2 Personal and WPA Enterprise.  When you select WPA Personal, by default the access point has WPA2/AES selected.  For security purposes, this option is always selected and cannot be de-selected.  However, you can add WPA by checking the WPA/TKIP box.
 
2. Does it support a RADIUS server?
 
Yes.
 
3. Does the LAPAC1750PRO support WEP with ASCII format?
 
WEP is not supported.
 
4. How many access point devices can be shown in the Rogue AP detection site survey list?
 
There is no limit.
 
5. Can I configure the virtual SSIDs when my access point is set to Workgroup Bridge?
 
No.  When Workgroup Bridge mode is enabled, then the AP supports only one BSS for wireless clients that associate with it, and another BSS to which the access point associates as a wireless client.
 
6. Can I use any access point for the WDS feature?
 
No.  The WDS feature is proprietary and only works with another LAPAC1750PRO.
 
7. Can I use the LAPAC1750 with the LAPAC1750PRO to configure WDS?
 
No.  It only works with the model LAPAC1750PRO not the LAPAC1750.

1. Can the access point act as my DHCP Server?
 
No.  The access point is nothing more than a wireless hub, and as such cannot be configured to handle DHCP capabilities.
 
2. What IPv6 features are supported?
 
The LAPAC1750PRO Access Point supports the following IPv6 functions:

3. What is the ISM band?
 
The FCC and their counterparts outside of the U.S. have set aside bandwidth for unlicensed use in the Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) band.  Spectrum in the vicinity of 2.4 GHz, in particular, is being made available worldwide.  This presents a truly revolutionary opportunity to place convenient high speed wireless capabilities for users around the globe. 
 
4. Would the information be intercepted while transmitting on air?
 
WLAN features two-fold protection in security.  On the hardware side, as with Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum technology, it has the inherent security feature of scrambling.  On the software side, the WLAN series offers a variety of wireless security methods to enhance security and access control.  Users can set it up depending upon their needs.
 
5. What is Rogue AP Detection? 
 
Rogue AP is an access point that has been installed on a secure network without explicit authorization from a system administrator.  Rogue access points pose a security threat because anyone with access to the premises can ignorantly or maliciously install an inexpensive wireless WAP device that can potentially allow unauthorized parties to access the network.
 
6. How does the Rogue AP Detection feature work? 
 
Once you enabled the Rogue AP detection feature in LAPAC1750PRO, go to the Rogue AP detection Web GUI.  When Site survey is done, it will display the results of the Rogue AP detected.
 
7. What is a Workgroup Bridge? 
 
The Workgroup Bridge feature enables the access point to extend the accessibility of a remote network.  In Workgroup Bridge mode, the access point acts as a wireless station (STA) on the wireless LAN.  It can bridge traffic between a remote wired network or associated wireless clients and the wireless LAN that is connected using the Workgroup Bridge mode.
 
8. Does the access point function as a firewall?
 
No.  The access point is only a bridge from wired Ethernet to wireless clients. 
 
9. What is the maximum number of users the access point can handle?
 
32 clients per Radio can associate to the access point.
 
10. How many SSIDs can the LAPAC1750PRO support?
 
This device supports 8 BSSIDs on per radio using 8 different virtual MAC addresses for a total of 16 SSIDs for both radios.
 
11. Can I configure LAPAC1750PRO by HTTPS?
 
Yes.  Access the web-based setup page then go to Configuration > Administration > Management Access.  You have to uncheck HTTP checkbox before checking the redirect checkbox.
 
12. Does LAPAC1750PRO support NetBIOS Protocol?
 
Yes.
 
13. How does it work when the channel is set to Auto?
 
LAPAC1750PRO will check the channel with the lowest amount of wireless interference when the device reboots or user changes the parameters of wireless radio to cause the radio to restart.  The wireless client will connect to this channel with the lowest amount of wireless interference.
 
14. Can Workgroup Bridge work at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz at the same time?
 
No.  Workgroup Bridge only works with one (1) radio at the same time.
 
15. Since LAPAC1750PRO supports dual images, can I swap the firmware between two (2) flashes?
 
No.
 
16. How many MAC addresses does LAPAC1750PRO have?
 
LAPAC1750PRO has three (3) legal global MAC addresses, one (1) is LAN MAC address and the other two (2) are Wi-Fi radio interface MAC addresses for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.  The multiple SSID and Workgroup Bridge interface MAC addresses are temporary and they are calculated base on Wi-Fi radio interface MAC address.
 
17. How does the bandwidth usage mechanism of the upstream and downstream bandwidth rate limit work?
 
All wireless clients associated to an SSID will share the bandwidth, the SSID have been configured with Rate Limit.
 
18. Does the LAPAC1750PRO support 802.11r fast roaming?
 
No.
 
19. What is the function of the untagged VLAN ID?  When can I use this option?
 
Frames belonging to the untagged VLAN ID do not carry VLAN tags when sent over the trunk.  Conversely, if an untagged frame is received on a trunk port, the frame is associated with the native VLAN configured on that port.  The untagged VLAN ID is similar the proprietary term native VLAN of Cisco switch.
 
20. What is the function of SSID wireless client limit?  How does the LAPAC1750PRO handle the wireless client which exceeds limited quantity?
 
You can set a max of wireless clients to connect to an SSID.  When the limit has been reached, the wireless client will not be able to associate to the SSID it will fail to connect.
 
21. Does the LAPAC1750PRO support file integrity check for firmware upgrade file?
 
Yes.
 
22. How does the LAPAC1750PRO work when there are power supplied by both PoE source and DC source?
 
The LAPAC1750PRO Ethernet port can be powered by PoE and DC source by power injector at the same time.  The PoE should have higher precedence than AC.  The LAPAC1750PRO must be able to fail over between PoE and AC seamlessly, without any influence to system from user perspective.
 
23. How do I install the LAPAC1750PRO for maximum performance?
 
The access point should be installed such that the antenna is facing the maximum usage area.  It can be either on your ceiling or wall-mounted.
 
24. How do I enable Band Steering?
 
Once you have accessed the web-based setup page of your LAPAC1750PRO, go to Configuration> Wireless > Advanced Settings.  Tick the Enable checkbox next to Band Steering then click Save.
 
25. What is AeroScout?
 
This feature is Disabled by default.  When enabled, AeroScout devices are recognized and data is sent to an Aeroscout Engine (AE) for analysis.  The AE determines the geographical location of 802.11-capable devices, such as STAs, APs, and AeroScout’s line of 802.11-enabled RFID devices, or tags.  The AE communicates with access points that support the AE protocol in order to collect information about the RF devices detected by the access points.  Using the AE protocol, LAPAC1750 PRO Dual Band supports direct communication between AE and the access points.  When operating in managed mode, the AE is configured with the IP address of the managed access points from which it collects information.  The Wireless Switch cannot communicate with the AE.  
 
NOTE:  This is only available if you have purchased software from www.aeroscout.com.
 
AeroScout tags operate only in 802.11 b/g mode.  Therefore, network administrators who use the AeroScout tags must configure at least one (1) radio on access points that are expected to detect tags in either 802.11b/g or 802.11b/g/n mode.  The radios configured in 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11 mode or any of the 5GHZ modes cannot detect AeroScout tags.
 
The AE protocol allows access points to mark detected APs as rogue devices.  The LAPAC1750PRO Dual Band access points do not support this feature and never report detected access points as rogues.

 
26. What AeroScout tag hardware types are supported?
 
Only AeroScout tag hardware of types T2 and T3 are explicitly supported.  Other tag models are also supported only if their implementation of the AeroScout protocol conforms to the AeroScout Engine – Access Point Interface Specification, version 2.1.

27. What is TSPEC?
 
The LAPAC1750PRO supports Traffic Specification (TSPEC).  A TSPEC is a traffic specification that is sent from a QoS-capable wireless client to an access point requesting a certain amount of network access for the traffic stream (TS) it represents.  A traffic stream is a collection of data packets identified by the wireless client as belonging to a particular user priority.  An example of a voice traffic stream is a Wi-Fi-certified telephone handset that marks its codec-generated data packets as voice priority traffic.  An example of a video traffic stream is a video player application on a wireless laptop that prioritizes a video conference feed from a corporate server.
 
28. Does the LAPAC1750PRO support Captive Portal?
 
Yes.
 
29. Does the LAPAC1750PRO support Cluster?
 
Yes.
 
30. How can I use the Diagnostic Log?
 
The Diagnostic Log is only needed per request of a support agent for troubleshooting purposes.
 

TROUBLESHOOTING
 

1. How do I avoid interference?
 
Using multiple access points on the same channel and in close proximity to one another will generate interference.  When employing multiple access points, make sure to operate each one on a different channel or frequency.
 
2. How do I resolve issues with signal loss?
 
There is no way to know the exact range of your wireless network without testing.  Every obstacle placed between an access point and wireless computer will create signal loss.  Leaded glass, metal, concrete floors, water, and walls will inhibit the signal and reduce range.  Start with your access point and your wireless computer in the same room and move it away in small increments to determine the maximum range in your environment.  You can also try using different channels, as this may eliminate interference affecting only one channel.  Also, you can go the access point’s web-based setup page, click Wireless > Advanced Wireless, and make sure the output power is set to 100%.
 
3. I have excellent signal strength, but I cannot see my network.  What should I do? 
 
Wireless security such as WEP or WPA is probably enabled on the access point, but not on your wireless adapter or vice versa.  Verify that the same wireless security settings are being used on all devices in your wireless network. 
 
4. What should I do when there are no LEDs lit on the wireless access point?
 
If the wireless access point has no power and you use a PoE switch to provide power to the wireless access point:
  • If using a PoE switch or device to power on the AP, make sure you are using the PoE port marked on the AP.
  • If you are using the power adapter, make sure that the power cord of the PoE switch is plugged into a working power outlet or power strip.
  • Make sure that the PoE switch is functioning normally.
5. How come I only have channels 1-7 available for Radio 1 when the Chanel Bandwidth is set to 20/40MHz?
 
To choose the upper channels, you must select Upper in the Primary channel.  You will need to first select any channel from the Channel drop down menu, and then the Primary Channel will be available to select Upper.  Once you have Upper selected, you can then choose Channels 5-11.
 
If clients only support 20 MHz channel then leaving the Primary channel to Lower is needed which will allow channels 1-7 available.  If all wireless clients support both 20/40 MHz in order to use higher channels, change the Primary Channel to Upper which will give you an option of channels 5-11.
 

FIRMWARE UPGRADE

 
1. How do I upgrade the firmware on the LAPAC1750PRO?

 
Step 1:
Access the web-based setup page of your access point.  For instructions, click here.
 
Step 2:
Click on Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade tab, click the Choose File button and select the new firmware file.
 
Step 3:
Click the Upgrade button.
 
NOTE:  Do NOT power OFF or press the Reset button while upgrading the firmware of the access point.  The LAPAC1750PRO will reboot automatically after the firmware upgrade is completed.
