Resolving the Linksys E8350 firmware "Upgrade Failed" error message

Upgrading the firmware of your Linksys E8350 AC2400 Dual-Band Wireless Router improves its operational functions and fixes software issues found in the previous version.  This article will provide you instructions on how to resolve the error message encountered when trying to upgrade the firmware of your router to 1.0.02 (build 09).

Scenario:
 
Your router’s firmware version is 1.0.00 (build 31) and you get an error message “Upgrade Failed” when trying to upgrade it to firmware version 1.0.02 (build 9).
 
Solution:
 
You will need to upgrade to firmware 1.0.01 (build 37) before upgrading to firmware 1.0.02 (build 9).
 
To resolve this error message, follow the steps below:

 
Step 1:
Verify your router’s firmware version.  To check, access your router’s web-based setup page > enter your router password > click Status.  
 
Step 2:
If your router’s firmware is 1.0.00 (build 31), you will need to upgrade to firmware 1.0.01 (build 37).  Click here to download the file.  For instructions on how to update the firmware of your router, click here
 
IMPORTANT:  Make sure you do NOT rename the firmware file.

Step 3:
Once you have successfully upgraded to version 1.0.01 (build 37), you can now upgrade to firmware version 1.0.02 (build 9).  Click here to download the file.  For instructions on how to upgrade the firmware of your router, click here.
 
You should have successfully upgraded your router’s firmware.

NOTE:  This is ONLY a one time step for routers that have 1.0.00 (build 31).  Future upgrades do not require this firmware.
