HARDWARE INFORMATION

1. What is the WAG54G2?

The WAG54G2 is the Linksys Wireless-G ADSL2+ Gateway with 1 DSL port and 4 10/100 Mb Ethernet switch port.  It supports Wi-Fi Protected™ (WPS), SPI firewall, and a variety of security features help to protect your data and your privacy while online.

2. What IP address, username and password are used to login to the WAG54G2?

The default IP address is 192.168.1.1.  The default username and password is admin.

3. How can I reset the WAG54G2 to factory defaults?

There are two (2) ways to reset the gateway to factory defaults.  Press the Reset button for approximately 10 seconds or restore the defaults from the Administration > Factory Defaults tab of the web-based setup page.

4. What is the warranty period of the WAG54G2?

The warranty period is dependent on the country of purchase.  For more information about your device's warranty, click here.

5. Does the WAG54G2 support remote management?

Yes.

6. Which Internet Connection Type does WAG54G2 support?

RFC 2364 PPPoA, RFC 2516 PPPoE, RFC 1483 Routed, IPoA, RFC 1483 Bridged, and Bridged Mode Only.

7. What is the transmit power of the antennas?

18 dBm.

8. What power supply does the WAG54G2 use?

12 Volts DC, 1 Ampere.

9. What levels and types of wireless security does the WAG54G2 support?

The WAG54G2 supports WEP, WPA/WPA2-Personal, WPA-Mixed, WPA-Enterprise, WPA2-Enterprise, and RADIUS.

The default SSID is linksys.

2. How many Wireless Clients can be added in the MAC Address Filter List at most?

The maximum wireless clients that can be added is 50.

3. Does WAG54G2 allow VPN tunnels using IPSec, L2TP, PPPoE or PPTP protocols to pass through the router?

Yes.

LEDs

1. What LEDs does the WAG54G2 have, what color are the LEDs and what do the colors mean?

•   Power (Green) - The Power LED lights up and stays on while the gateway is powered ON.

•   ETHERNET 1, 2, 3, 4 (Green) - These numbered LEDs, corresponding with the numbered ports on the gateway's back panel, serve two purposes.  If the LED is continuously lit, the gateway is successfully connected to a device through that port. It flashes to indicate network activity over that port.

•   DSL (Green) - The DSL LED lights up whenever there is a successful DSL connection.  The LED flashes while the gateway is establishing the ADSL connection.

•   Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ Button (Green) - The DSL LED flashes after you press this button to cause Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ to search for your Wi-Fi Protected Setup™-supported wireless device.

•   Wireless (Green) - The Wireless LED lights up when the wireless feature is enabled.  It flashes when the gateway is actively sending or receiving data over the network.

•   Internet (Green) - The Internet LED lights up and stays on when there is a connection made through the Internet port.  It flashes to indicate network activity over the Internet port.

1. Is there a Backup and Restore settings feature on the WAG54G2?

Yes.

FIRMWARE UPGRADE METHOD

1. How do I upgrade the firmware on the WAG54G2?

Use the web-based setup page.  Go to Administration tab > Firmware Upgrade.  Select the file to upgrade by using the browse button and then click Upgrade.  Do not reset or powercycle unit while it is upgrading.

SPECIAL FEATURES

1. What DDNS providers does the WAG54G2 support?

DynDNS.org and TZO.

2. What web browser can the WAG54G2 be used with?

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher, Firefox 1.0 or higher.

3. Can the WAG54G2 be used as a VPN endpoint?

No, the WAG54G2 only supports VPN pass-through.

4. What is the UPnP?

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) allows the later Windows operating systems to automatically configure the router for various Internet applications such as gaming and videoconferencing.

5. What is Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and what is it used for?

The DMZ screen allows one local user to be exposed to the Internet for use of a special-purpose service such as Internet gaming and videoconferencing.  DMZ hosting forwards all the ports at the same time to one PC.  The Port Range Forwarding is more secure because it only opens the ports you want to have opened, while DMZ hosting opens all the ports of one computer, exposing the computer to the Internet.  DMZ works well when you don't know which specific ports need to be opened for an application.
