PLE500 Frequently Asked Questions

1. Up to what data rate speed can the PLE500 support?

The supported data rate speed of a PLE500 is up to 500Mbps.
2. Can PLE500 communicate with HomePlug 1.0 device?
No.  Devices that support HomePlug AV and AV2cannot communicate with HomePlug 1.0 devices, but all HomePlug AV and HomePlug 1.0 devices can exist together on the same power line.
3.What powerline technologies are compatible with the PLE500?
HomePlug 1.1 and HomePlug AV.
4. Is the utility bundled with the PLE500?
The utility does not ship with product must be downloaded from the Product support page.
5. How to change Network Key using the Utility?
When changing the Network Key you must have 2 or more PLE's connected and checked in order to share the network key between the PLE500's.
6. All my PLE's are showing up as Local Device, which one is the real Local Device?
When you connect a PLE directly to the computer this PLE will display as Local Device in the Network Status tab, however if you have 2 PLE's that are part of a network and your wireless adapter on the same computer is wirelessly connected to the same network it will detect both PLE's as Local Device.
In order to find out which one is the actual Local Device for configuration purposes you can do the following:
Step 1:
Check the MAC address of each PLE by looking at the label and then verify the MAC address on the Network Status tab and select the appropriate PLE to make your necessary changes.
NOTE:  You can alsodisable your wireless adapter on your computer and click Refresh on the Network Status tab, you will now see only one PLE as "Local Device".
7. How many PLE500 should I connect to my router?
Only connect one powerline device to the router, connect all other PLE's to other network devices.  Connecting 2 PLE's directly to the router will cause a loop and your powerline network may stop function.
8. How do I upgrade the firmware on the PLE500?

Make sure to connect the PLE which you are performing an upgrade to directly to the computer.  It will show as Local Device on the Network tab, select it and go to the Administration tab to perform the upgrade. However if you see more than one device that shows up as Local Device, most likely your Wi-Fi adapter is also connected back to the same network.  Turn off/disable your wireless adapter FIRST and always double check the MAC address you are connected to.  When you highlight a PLE you will see the firmware version number of that PLE in the Detail Information section on the Network Status tab.  It is not recommended to upgrade the firmware on a remote PLE when the computer is wireless you should connect it directly to the computer.
9. How can I reset the PLE500 via utility?
Select the PLE from the Network Status tab and verify the MAC address of the PLE before clicking Restore on the Administration tab or insert a tool into the Reset button of the PLE (ex:paperclip) and hold down for about 10 seconds (until the LED's flash off and on).
