The Linksys WAP1200AC AC1200 Wi-Fi Access Point is the latest in the AC-series access points which utilizes the Cross Band technology.  It can be used as a Wireless Range Extender or a Wired Access Point.  Both functions maximize simultaneous use of the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands for high speed data transfer, uninterrupted streaming, and gaming.  For detailed information about the product features and specification of the Linksys WAP1200AC, click here.

The following are the product requirements when using your Linksys WAP1200AC:

  • Ethernet router or switch with available RJ45 Ethernet port and RJ45 Cable for Access Point mode or wireless network for Range Extender mode

8.  How do I position the antennas of my Linksys WAP1200AC to optimize maximum signal strength?
 
The two (2) non-detachable antennas are adjustable to different positions depending on its location in the home.  To optimize your antennas’ maximum signal strength, follow the recommended positions.  To learn more about this, click here.
 
IMPORTANT:  The antennas are fixed and can ONLY rotate at 180 degrees.  Do NOT force the antennas too far back, otherwise, they will break.
 

SETUP & INSTALLATION
 
1.  How do I set up the Linksys WAP1200AC?
 
Setting up the Linksys WAP1200AC is made fast and easy because of its CD-less setup.  Now you can run the setup from a web browser even if the access point does not initially have an Internet connection and is on factory default settings.  For instructions on how to manually set up the Linksys WAP1200AC, click here.  You can also set up the Linksys WAP1200AC on Access Point mode or Range Extender mode.
 
2.  Can I set up the Linksys WAP1200AC using a smart mobile device?
 
Yes.  Any mobile device or wireless computer can be used to set up the Linksys WAP1200AC.
 
3.  What is the default IP Address and password of the Linksys WAP1200AC?
 
If the Linksys WAP1200AC does not detect a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server in your network and has not obtained an IP Address from a router, its default IP Address is 192.168.1.1.  The default password is admin.
 
4.  What are the two (2) setup modes of my Linksys WAP1200AC?
 
The Linksys WAP1200AC can be set up in two (2) modes.  These are:
  • Wired Range Extender Access Point mode (requires an Ethernet cable connected to your existing network)
  • Wireless Range Extender mode

Press and hold the Reset button of your Linksys WAP1200AC for 10 seconds to reset it to factory default settings.
 
8.  How do I identify what mode the Linksys WAP1200AC is in?
 
After setup, access the Linksys WAP1200AC’s web-based setup page to view the updated top header name. 
 
NOTE:  If the Linksys WAP1200AC is on access point mode, the top header will read Dual Band Wireless Access Point.  If it is on range extender mode, the top header will read Dual Band Wireless Range Extender.
 
9.  How do I switch from Access Point mode to Range Extender mode?
 
You will need to Reset your Linksys WAP1200AC for 10 seconds and run the setup wizard.
 
NOTE:  Resetting the Linksys WAP1200AC will revert it to factory default settings.

1.  How do I upgrade the firmware of the Linksys WAP1200AC?

1.  What is the maximum Data Rate speed for each band?
 
The maximum data rate speed of the Linksys WAP1200AC is up to 300 Mbps for the 2.4 GHz band and up to 867 Mbps for the 5 GHz band.
 
2.  Which wireless connection standards and frequencies are supported by the Linksys WAP1200AC?
 
The Linksys WAP1200AC supported standards are 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11a and 802.11ac.  It also supports the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies simultaneously.
 
3.  What wireless security modes does the Linksys WAP1200AC support?
 
The Linksys WAP1200AC supports the following wireless security modes:
  • Extender mode (Wireless Settings) supports WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode, WPA2 Personal and WEP
  • Extender mode & Acess Point mode (Extended Wireless Settings) supports WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode, WPA2 Personal and WEP 
4.  Can I change the Extended Wireless Settings of my access point while on Range Extender mode?  

Yes.   The Extended Wireless Settings feature of your Linksys WAP1200AC is the wireless link between the range extender and the wireless clients.  By default, the range extender follows the wireless settings of your router.  To learn how to change the wireless network name, click here.
 
5.  Where can I find the MAC Address of my access point for Wireless MAC Filtering?
 
You can find the wireless MAC Address of your Linksys WAP1200AC on its web-based setup page.  To do this, go to Status > WLAN Statistics > Seen by Upstream AP. 
 
NOTE:  If the Linksys WAP1200AC is on Access Point mode, this field will not be displayed since the Acess Point is wired to the router.

6.  What is Cross Band technology, and does my Linksys WAP1200AC support it?
 
The Linksys WAP1200AC supports Cross Band technology.  This technology maximizes the simultaneous use of both bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) for high speed data transfer and uninterrupted streaming and gaming.  To get an overview of the manual settings of the Cross Band feature, click here.
 
7.  What options can I select if I want to manually set up the Cross Band settings?
 
Below are the scenarios on what adjustments to make:
  • Non-Cross Dual Band - This option disables the Cross Band feature of the Linksys WAP1200AC.
  • Cross-Dual Band - This option turns the Cross Band feature ON.
  • 2.4 GHz Only - Choose this option if you want to force data to transmit through 2.4 GHz ONLY between extender and root.
  • 5 GHz Only - Choose this option if you want to force data to transmit through 5 GHz ONLY between extender and root.
NOTE:  It is highly recommended to leave the Cross Band feature on Auto.  If you need to know more about the manual settings of the Cross Band feature, click here.
 
8.  What is the Spot Finder Technology?
 
The Spot Finder technology determines the signal strength of your Linksys WAP1200AC.  It lets you know if your Linksys WAP1200AC is too close or too far from your router.
 
IMPORTANT:  The Spot Finder technology is ONLY available when your Linksys WAP1200AC is on Range Extender mode.
