How to reset the Linksys Gigabit VPN Routers, LRT214 and LRT224 to factory defaults

You need to reset your Linksys Gigabit VPN Router if you want to restore the device to its factory default settings.

There are two (2) ways to reset the router:
  1. By pressing the RESET button
  2. By web administrative interface
By pressing the RESET button

In the event that you can’t access the router’s web-based setup page or simply forgot the router’s password, you may reset the router to its factory default settings.  To do this, press and hold the RESET button located at the back of the router for over 20 seconds using the tip of a pencil or a paper clip.  The router will restore its configuration to factory defaults and restart itself.

NOTE:  Pressing the RESET button will erase all the settings on your router including the OpenVPN Settings.  If you do not want to do this, reset the router through the web administrative interface.

QUICK TIP:  When you start to hold down the RESET button, the Diag light will slowly flash.  When the Diag light starts to flash rapidly, let go of the RESET button.  This is when the router has been successfully restored to defaults.

By web administrative interface

Step 1:
Access the router's web-based setup page.  To learn how, click here.

Step 2:
Click on the Maintenance tab on the header.

Step 3:
Click Factory Default in the navigation tree on the left side.

Step 4:
Click Factory Default.  This will reset your router to default settings except the OpenVPN settings such as certificates, private keys and accounts.

If you want to reset all the settings including the OpenVPN configuration, click Factory Default including OpenVPN.
