WAG325N Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is WAG325N?

WAG325N is a Linksys Wireless-N ADSL2+ Gateway. The Gateway lets you access the Internet via a wireless connection or through one of its four switched ports.

You can also use the Gateway to share resources such as computers, printers and files. A variety of security features help to protect your data and your privacy while online.

Security features include WPA2 security, a Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall and NAT technology. Configuring the Gateway is easy using the provided browser-based utility.

2. What can I do if my computer cannot connect to the Internet?

Follow the instructions until your computer can connect to the Internet:

a)     Make sure that the Gateway is powered on. The Power LED should be green and not flashing.

b)     If the Power LED is flashing, then power off all of your network devices, including the Gateway and computers. Then power on each device in the following order:

i) Gateway
ii) Computer

c)     Check the LEDs on the front panel of the Gateway. Make sure the Power, DSL, and at least one of the numbered LEDs are lit. If they are not, then check the cable connections. The computer should be connected to one of the ports numbered 1-4 on the Gateway, and the Line port of the Gateway must be connected to the ADSL line.

3. When I double-click the web browser, it prompted for a username and password. How do I get rid of the prompt?

Launch the web browser and perform the following steps (these steps are specific to Internet Explorer but are similar for other browsers):

a)     Select Tools then select Internet Options.
b)     Click the Connections tab.
c)     Select Never dial a connection.
d)     Click OK.

4. What can I do if I am using a static IP address and cannot connect?

Refer to Windows Help and change your Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties to Obtain an IP address automatically.

5. What to do if the computer cannot connect wirelessly to the network?

Make sure the wireless network name or SSID is the same on both the computer and the Gateway. If you have enabled wireless security, then make sure the same security method and key are used by both the computer and the Gateway.

6. How to modify the basic settings on the Gateway?

Run the Setup Wizard on the Setup CD-ROM.

7. How to modify the advanced settings on the Gateway?

Open the web browser (for example, Internet Explorer or Firefox), and enter the Gateway's IP address in the address field (the default IP address is When prompted, complete the User name and Password fields (the default user name and password is admin). Click the appropriate tab to change the settings.

8. What is the Warranty period length of the WAG325N?

10. What is "DMZ" and what is it used for?

The DMZ screen allows one local user to be exposed to the Internet for use of a special-purpose service such as Internet gaming and videoconferencing. DMZ hosting forwards all the ports at the same time to one PC. The Port Range Forwarding is more secure because it only opens the ports you want to have opened, while DMZ hosting opens all the ports of one computer, exposing the computer to the Internet.  DMZ works well when you don't know which specific ports need to be opened for an application.
