- Common Powerline networking issues
The following are some of the problems you may encounter when using a Powerline adapter and steps for initial troubleshooting.
i. None of the LEDs light up after you installed the Powerline adapter
ii. The Ethernet LED does not light up on the Powerline adapter
iii. You cannot connect to other computers on your local network or to the Internet
iv. The Powerline adapter suddenly stops working
Follow the steps below to resolve this issue:
Disconnect the Ethernet cables connected to the Powerline adapter.
Unplug the power cord from the adapter and wait for five (5) seconds.
Re-connect the Ethernet cables and the power cord to the Powerline adapter. Observe the LEDs.
QUICK TIP: Make sure that the electrical outlet is working properly. You can test this by plugging a different electrical device to it and check if it powers ON.
The Ethernet LED indicator on the Powerline adapter will light up once it detects a network device plugged to the Ethernet port. Check the Ethernet port connection by doing the following:
Check if the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the Powerline adapter.
Make sure that the Ethernet cable is properly connected to the router, computer or any of the network devices.
IMPORTANT: Make sure that the device you are connecting to the Powerline adapter is powered ON.
Check the Ethernet adapter on your computer to see if it is working.
If you have not set up advanced security for the Powerline network, follow these steps:
Locate the Powerline adapter connected to the computer that cannot connect.
Reset the adapter to factory default settings. On the left side of the adapter, use a pointed object to press and hold the Reset button for at least 10 seconds.
NOTE: The location of the Reset button may vary depending on the device. For example, the Reset button of PLW400 is located at the side panel of the device. To learn how to reset the Powerline fast Ethernet adapter, click here.
If you have set up advanced security for the Powerline network, make sure all adapters on the Powerline network have been configured with the same network password. The network password must be identical in order for them to communicate with each other.
If the Powerline adapter suddenly freezes or stops working, you can perform a powercycle. Unplug the Powerline adapter from the power source and wait for five (5) seconds before you plug it back.
