Connecting a PSP to a WRE54G v2 when connected to a WRT54G

This article will guide you on how to connect your PSP to a WRE54G v2 Wireless Range Expander when connected to a WRT54G.  To connect the PSP to WRE54G v2 which repeats the signal of the WRT54G that has MAC Filtering Security enabled, you must assign a Static IP address on PSP.

QUICK TIP:  Before connecting your PSP to your WRE54G v2 make sure that you take of your access point or router’s wireless setting.

  Step 1: 
   Turn ON your PSP and navigate to Settings.  Then, scroll-down to Network Settings and press the cross button.

Step 2:
Select Infrastructure Mode and press the cross button.

Step 3:
Select New Connection and press the cross button.       

Step 4:
Select Scan and press the right button.

Step 5:
Select your access point/router network name and press the cross button.

QUICK TIP:  If the SSID field is blank, enter your router’s SSID and press the right button.

Step 6:
Select the security settings used on the access point or router and press the right button.
Step 7:
If your network is secured, enter your access point or router’s security key or passphrase.
Step 8:
Select Custom for address settings and press the right button.  Enter the details similar to the list below:

  • IP Address: 192.168.1.”x” (Put your desired number on “x”.  Make sure it does not conflict with others)
  • Subnet Mask:
  • Default Router: Enter your Router/Access Point IP address.  For example, “”.
  • Primary DNS and Secondary DNS:  You can find your routers DNS numbers by using the “ipconfig” command.

Step 9:
Enter the name of your connection, example, “Linksys”, and then press the right button.

Step 10:
Press the right button again after viewing the setting list, and press the cross button to save settings.
Step 11:
Press the cross button to Test Connection.
Step 12:
Scroll-down to Internet Connection.  If it says Succeeded, then you have successfully made a connection.
