Setting up the Linksys WAP750AC to Access Point mode

The Linksys WAP750AC AC750 Wireless Access Point can be set up in two (2) ways namely Access Point (AP) mode or Range Extender mode.  For better Wi-Fi speeds choose Access Point mode.  This article will show you steps on how you can set it up to work on AP mode.
 
Step 1:
Plug the Linksys WAP750AC into a power outlet.
 
NOTE:  Wait for the Light Emitting Diode (LED) to change to amber.  To learn more about this device’s LED behavior, click here.
 
Step 2:
Connect an Ethernet cable from the router to the Linksys WAP750AC and wait until the LED turns green.  This indicates that it has obtained an Internet Protocol (IP) address from the router.
 
NOTE:  If the Linksys WAP750AC does not have an Ethernet cable connected at the time, the setup wizard will prompt you that it failed to detect the access point.  Ensure to connect an Ethernet cable and wait until the LED turns solid green before continuing setup.
 
Step 3:
Once the Linksys WAP750AC has obtained an IP address from your router, connect a wireless computer or a mobile device to the Linksys WAP750AC’s default SSID, which is Linksys AP Setup – xxx.  You should be connected to this wireless network to start the setup process.

QUICK TIP:  xxx are the last three (3) characters of the access point’s MAC address.  The MAC address of your access point is located on the label at the back of the device. 

 
Step 4:
Open a web browser and enter "http://ap.linksys.com" or "192.168.1.1" in the Address bar to launch the setup.
 
Step 5:
Click Start Setup.

Step 6:
Create and confirm your admin password.  You can also create an optional password hint to help you remember your password in the future.  Click Save.

Step 7:
Select the As a wired range extender (Access point) option then click Next.
 
QUICK TIP:  You may need to click on the blue drop down arrow to expand the options.

NOTE:  At this point, if you haven’t connected an Ethernet cable from your Linksys WAP750AC to a router or switch, it will prompt you to connect the cable and try again.
 
Step 8:
Create your access point’s extended network SSIDs and passwords then click Next once done.  This will be the wireless network name that your wireless devices will connect to.

NOTE:  If you want to set up your access point’s network using Wired Equivalent Protocol (WEP), you will need to set up your Linksys WAP750AC manually as the security mode only has WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode and WPA2 (recommended) as its options.  To learn how to manually set up the access point, click here.

You should now have set up your Linksys WAP750AC.

QUICK TIP:  There are three (3) methods to log in using your browser:
  • Enter http://ap.linksys.com in the Address bar.  
  • Enter the Linksys WAP750AC’s IP address in the Address bar.​
NOTE:  If your Linksys WAP750ACis not yet configured, its default IP address is 192.168.1.1.  Once your Linksys WAP750AC is already configured, you will need to look up the IP address in your router’s DHCP table.  To know how to do this using a Linksys Wi-Fi Router, click hereIf you are using a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router, click here.
  • Enter "http://WAP750AC-xxx" for Windows users or "http://WAP750AC-xxx.local" for Mac® users, where xxx are the last three (3) characters of the Linksys WAP750AC’s MAC address.
When Linksys WAP750AC is in Access Point mode, the top header will read Dual Band Wireless Access Point.  After setup, you can log in to the web-based setup page to view the updated top header name.
