Upgrading the Linksys Managed Switch’s firmware

You can upgrade the Linksys Managed Switch’s firmware using HTTP/HTTPs or TFTP through its web-based setup page.
 
Before upgrading the firmware of your Linksys Managed Switch you need to download the firmware first from the Linksys Support Site.  For instructions, click here.

Step 1:
Access the managed switch’s web-based setup page.  To know how, click here.
 
Step 2:
Click on the Maintenance tab and select the File Management tab, then select Firmware & Boot Code on the drop-down options.


 
Step 3:
On the Firmware & Boot Code screen, select the following:
  • File Transfer Protocol: HTTP/HTTPs
  • Command: Upgrade
  • File Type: Firmware

 
Step 4:
Click Browse and select the file that you saved from the support site.  Then click Apply to start the upgrade process.


Step 5:
When the confirmation prompt appears, click OK to continue.


Step 6:
When the upgrading process is completed, click on File Management > Active Firmware Image to select the image to be activated after the system reboots.


Step 7:
Click .

Step 8:
Click the Maintenance tab and select System Mode & Reboot on the left navigation side, then click Reboot.


You have now successfully upgraded the firmware using HTTP/HTTPs.

TFTP
Step 1:
On the setup page, click the Maintenance tab.

 
Step 2:
Open TFTP tool on your computer and set the Server Interface with the IP address of your switch.  Make sure the directory is set where the firmware file is located. 

NOTE:  In this example we are using Tftpd32 as our TFTP tool with 192.168.1.118 as its IP address.


Step 3:
On the web-based setup page, click File Management > Firmware & Boot Code.


Step 4:
On the Firmware & Boot Code screen, use the following:
  • File Transfer Protocol:  TFTP
  • Command:  Upgrade
  • File Type: Firmware
  • Source File:  (copy and paste the entire filename of the firmware file into this field including extension)
  • TFTP Server:  Select By Address or By Name 
NOTE:  linksys_smart is used as an example of the source file.
 

NOTE:  You can select IPv4 address, IPv6 address, or by name. i.e IPv4 address 192.168.1.118).

Step 5:
Click .  

The firmware upgrade by TFTP mode will proceed.


Step 6:
When the upgrading process is completed, click on File Management > Active Firmware Image to select the image to be activated after the system reboots.


Step 7:
Click .

Step 8:
Click on the Maintenance tab and select System Mode & Reboot on the left navigation side, then click Reboot.


Step 9:
Click OK to continue, when the confirmation prompt appears.
 

You have now successfully upgraded the firmware using TFTP.
