- Connecting a Windows Vista computer to the network using the WLAN Autoconfig
Connecting a wireless computer to your network is easy. If you are using a Windows Vista computer, you will be able to connect it to your Linksys router with little hassle by using the WLAN Autoconfig that comes with your Windows Vista OS. To do this, you will first need to know the following wireless settings:
- Your network’s Wireless Network Name (SSID)
- Your network’s Security key or passphrase
NOTE: If you do not know the wireless settings of your router, click here.
Right-click the icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen and select Connect to a network.
Select your network from the list of available networks then click Connect.
NOTE: If the wireless network name (SSID) is not listed, the SSID Broadcast on the router might be disabled. For instructions on how to connect to the wireless network with the SSID broadcast being disabled, click here.
If the computer is not detecting any signal or is not seeing any wireless network, change the channel of the router. For instructions, click here.
NOTE: If the process of getting information takes longer than usual, you may click the link I want to enter the network key or passphrase instead.
If you get the following message, you may click on the link I want to enter the network key or passphrase instead.
Enter your Security key or passphrase then click Connect.
QUICK TIP: Check the Display characters box to view the characters you're entering in the Security key field.
Click Close once you are successfully connected to your network.
