Restricting Internet access times during certain hours or days using the router's web-based setup page

The Parental Controls feature allows you to restrict Internet access for some users within your network.  Specifically, you can block Internet access for up to five (5) users.

NOTE:  Some Linksys Wi-Fi Routers do not have a built-in Parental Controls feature.  However, you can use the Parental Controls feature in Linksys Connect instead.  To learn how to configure Parental Controls using Linksys Connect, click here.  To learn which devices have a built-in Parental Controls feature, click here.

There are two (2) ways in blocking Internet access using the Parental Controls feature.  You can restrict access by specific times or by specific websites.  In this article, we will block Internet access by specific times.

QUICK TIP:  If you want to learn how to block specific websites using Parental Controls, click here.

Step 1:
Access the router’s web-based setup page.  For detailed instructions, click here.  For Mac users, click here.

Step 2:
Click on the Access Policy tab then click the Enabled radio button.

NOTE:  For other router models, you need to click the Access Restrictions tab to access the Parental Controls section.

Step 3:
Under Target Devices, click Add.

Step 4:
On the pop-up window that appears, select the devices that you want to set up with Parental Controls.  Click OK.  The devices that you selected will now show up under Target Devices section.

QUICK TIP:  The router will populate a list of devices that are connected to the network.  You can only set restrictions to the devices that are included in the list.  You can click the Remove or Rename buttons if you wish to delete the device from the list or to rename the device that was added, respectively.

Step 5:
Under Schedule, you may select Always or Specific times to restrict Internet access.  Take note of the following options for restricting Internet access according to specific times:

•   Always – This means that Internet access will be permanently blocked from the selected users.

•   Specific times – This option allows you to set an exact time range for blocking Internet access.  You can set restrictions both on school nights and weekends if you chose this option.  Each drop-down box for each section has a start time range of 12 NN - 12 MN and an end time range of 12:30 AM- 11:30 AM.  You cannot set any time range beyond these given values.

Step 6:
Click  to apply the changes.
