Accessing the setup page of the wireless-G Ethernet bridge

The Linksys WET54G Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge has a built-in web-based setup page that allows the user to customize settings for improved performance.  This article will show you how to access the web-based setup page of your device.

NOTE:  Before accessing the WET54G’s web-based setup page, make sure that the bridge is powered ON.  Connect the power adapter to the Power port of the device and to an available power outlet.

Accessing the setup page of the wireless bridge may depend on the connections between the router, the bridge, and the computer:

Assigning a static IP address to your computer

Step 1:
Right-click the Local Area Connection icon on your System Tray then select Open Network Connections.

Step 2:
On the Network Connections window, click Local Area Connection.

Step 3:
On the Local Area Connection Status window, click the Properties button. 

Step 4:
On the Local Area Connection Properties window, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click Properties.

Step 5:
Click the Use the following IP address radio button and enter the static IP address on the IP address field.

NOTE:  You can enter any IP address within the 192.168.1.x range.  In this example, “192.168.1.5” was used.

Step 6:
Click OK.

Accessing the web-based setup page

Step 1:
Open any web browser.

Step 2:
Enter your wireless bridge’s IP address into the Address bar field and press [Enter].

NOTE:  The default IP address of the wireless Ethernet bridge is 192.168.1.226.

Step 3:
Enter your wireless bridge’s User name and Password and click OK.

NOTE:  The default User name and Password of the WET54G is “admin”.  If you have
changed them, use the new settings instead.

You will be redirected to the setup page’s main screen.

Synchronizing the wireless settings of the router and the bridge

IMPORTANT:  Follow the steps provided below only if you are setting up your bridge for the first time.

Step 1:
Take note of the wireless settings (wireless network name/SSID and passphrase) of your router.  For instructions, click here.

Step 2:
On the setup page of the bridge, click the Setup tab.

Step 3:
Under the Wireless section, enter the SSID of your router.

Step 4:
Click the Enable radio button under the Security section then click Edit Security Settings.

Step 5:
The Security window will appear.  Choose the Security Mode used by your router then enter the wireless security key on the field provided.

IMPORTANT:  The WET54G supports WEP and WPA security modes only.  If you have set your router security mode to WPA2, you may need to change it to WPA.

Step 6:
On the Security window, click Apply.

Step 7:
On the main setup page window, click Apply to save the changes.

Accessing the setup page when the bridge is connected to the router

IMPORTANT:  These steps are applicable if the router has a default IP address (192.168.1.1).  If not, you need to assign a static IP address on the computer.  For instructions, click here.

Step 1:
Open any web browser.

Step 2:
Enter the default IP address of the bridge on the Address bar then press [Enter].

Step 3:
Enter “admin” on the User name and Password fields once the pop-up window appears.  You will be then directed to the bridge’s setup page.

Step 4:
Repeat the steps on synchronizing the wireless settings of the bridge and router (if you are setting up the bridge for the first time).  Click here for instructions.
