How to add a wired child node to the Velop system using the web interface

User-added image

It is recommended to add the child node using the Linksys app.  If you want to learn how to do that, click here.  However, if you would rather set up the child node manually, follow the steps below.

  • A configured parent node.  If you need to set up the parent node first, click below for instructions:
  • A child node.  Do not plug anything into its ports until it has been set up.
  • An ethernet cable
  • A computer that is connected to the parent node (can be wired or wireless)

Step 1:
Make sure that the child node is connected to a power source and its light is solid purple.

Step 2:
Log in to the parent node's web interface.  On your computer, open a web browser.  Enter "www.linksyssmartwifi.com" or "" (the node’s default IP address) in the Address bar then hit [ENTER]

If you need to check the node's IP Address, open the Linksys app and tap on the node icon to go Network Administration, select the parent node, go to IP Details, and look for the node's IP Address (tab/button names may vary).

Step 3:
You will be prompted for your login credentials, enter the required information and click on Sign In.  If you forgot your Linksys server account password, click
here to learn how to recover it.

Step 4:
On the web interface, click on the CA link at the bottom right-corner of the page.

Step 7:

Connect an ethernet cable to a port on the child node and connect the other end of the cable to the parent node.  The nodes will automatically switch to a wired connection.

For nodes with multiple ports, connect an ethernet cable to the internet port of the child node and connect the other end of the cable to a LAN port on the parent node.  When the nodes are set up this way, the unused LAN ports can be used for other devices and the internet port on the child node will be converted into an additional LAN port.

The light on the child node will blink purple during this process.

Step 8:
When the child node’s light turns solid blue, click on Done Adding Child Nodes then click on Ok or Apply.

Step 9:
You have now set up a wired Velop system.  If you have other nodes to add, simply repeat the steps above but connect the additional child nodes to the upstream node instead of connecting them to the parent node.
