The Linksys wireless USB adapter shows as an ethernet connection in Mac computers

Due to the Mac® computer’s limitation in supporting 3rd-party wireless USB adapters, the Linksys wireless USB adapter will show as an ethernet adapter in Network preferences.  To fix this, you may rename the device by following the instructions below.

NOTE:  The Linksys WUSB6300 v2 is used in this article.  The images and steps may vary if you are using the Linksys WUSB6300 v1 or Linksys WUSB6400M.  
 
Step 1:
Find the MAC address of the adapter on the product label.

Step 2:
On your Mac computer, open the Apple menu and go to System Preferences > Network.

Step 3:
In the Network screen, select the adapter and click the Advanced button.

Step 4:
Click on the Hardware tab to verify the MAC address.  Click OK.

Step 5:
Click on the Settings icon in the Network screen.  Then, select the Rename Service option.

Step 6:
Enter your desired name and click Rename.

Step 7:
The screen should now display the name for the adapter.  Click Apply to save the changes.
