Remote Management allows you to access and manage the router from a remote location, via the Internet. Managing a Linksys router from a remote location is similar to accessing it locally. The main difference is, instead of typing the router’s LAN IP Address in the web browser’s Address bar to access it; you have to type the router’s Internet IP Address.
QUICK TIP: Before you begin the process, make sure that you know the LAN IP Address of the router since there’s no way of getting it remotely.
To enable remote management on a Linksys router, you need to perform three steps:
i. Enabling Remote Management on a Linksys router
ii. Checking the Internet IP address of a Linksys router
iii. Accessing the Linksys router from a remote location
NOTE: Before proceeding, make sure that the router is already installed properly and computers can go online when connected to it. To enable Remote Management, follow the steps below:
Enabling Remote Management on a Linksys router
IMPORTANT: The steps below should be done locally. Remote Management feature should be enabled first before you can access the router’s web-based setup page remotely.
Step 1:
Access the router’s web-based setup page. For instructions, click here.
Step 2:
On the setup page, click Administration.
Step 3:
For added security, change the Router Password and re-enter to confirm.
IMPORTANT: It is not possible to enable the Remote Management feature on the router if the router’s password is left on its default settings.
Step 4:
Look for Remote Management and click Enabled.
Step 5:
Click Save Settings.
Checking the Internet IP address of a Linksys router
Step 1:
Access the router’s web-based setup page. For instructions, click here.
Step 2:
Click Status.
The Status page shows the Internet IP Address information.
Accessing a Linksys router from a remote location
Step 1:
Using a computer that’s connected to the Internet from a remote location, launch a web browser and enter “http://0.0.0.0:8080”, where 0 represents the router's Internet IP address, and 8080 represents the specified port on the Address field.
Step 2:
A window will then appear asking for a User name and Password. Leave the User name blank, enter your new router’s password, then click OK.
You should now be able to manage the router through its web-based setup page from a remote location.
