Upgrading the Valet Hotspot’s firmware will provide a quick fix for issues that users may have encountered. This includes a more stable connectivity and functionality enhancements to the hotspot.
To upgrade the Valet Hotspot’s firmware, you need to complete the following steps:
i. Downloading the firmware
ii. Performing and completing the firmware upgrade
Here are a few tips and tricks before you begin the upgrade process:
- For stable connectivity and to prevent upgrade failures, make sure that your computer is connected to the hotspot using an Ethernet cable. Upgrading the firmware wirelessly may be prone to abrupt disconnection that could cause permanent damage to the router since wireless connection may be unstable during the process.
- Use a different web browser if Internet Explorer doesn’t work or use a different computer to perform the upgrade.
- Disable any computer firewall to ensure that the upgrade will not be disrupted.
Step 1:
Visit the Linksys Support Site. Enter the model number of your product in the Search field and click the model number of the device you need help with from the drop-down list. The product page of your device will then appear.
Step 2:
Under the DOWNLOADS section, click Download Software.
Click the hardware version of your device.
Select the firmware for your device and click Download.
NOTE: Image may vary depending on the operating system of your computer.
For Mac® computers, it will be automatically saved in the Downloads folder.
NOTE: The name of the file may vary depending on the firmware file of your hotspot.
Step 5:
If the firmware file you have downloaded is in a zip format, double-click the zip file and extract its contents to a single folder or to the Desktop.
Performing and completing the firmware upgrade
Once you have downloaded the firmware, launch Linksys Connect. Click Valet settings.

When you see the Valet settings screen, click Advanced settings.
In the Advanced settings screen, click Copy password then click OK. It will bring you to the router’s web-based setup page of your Valet Hotspot.
When you are prompted for a User name and Password, enter your hotspot’s User name and right-click in the Password field and select Paste to paste the password you have copied earlier. Then click OK.
You will then see the web-based setup page. Select Administration and click Firmware Upgrade.
Click the Browse… button. Select the .bin file that you downloaded earlier and click Open.
Click the Start Upgrade button.

You may now reconfigure the hotspot’s settings to enable Internet access and wireless connection.
