Manually upgrading the firmware of a Velop system

While automatic updates make it easier to upgrade your firmware, there are two ways you can manually upgrade the firmware of your Velop system. These can be through the following:
1. By logging into the CA section of your Velop system.
2. By using a specific link depending on whether your Velop system is already configured or if it is still on its factory default settings.

Check the options below for more information. For further assistance, you can also call Linksys technical support.

Before you begin

Access the Linksys app dashboard to check the IP address of the parent or child node. For instructions on how to log in using an Android™ device, click
here. For iOS, click here. Once in the dashboard, select the menu icon and go to Network Administration. Tap on your parent node's name to locate its IP Address.

Below are points to help you identify the appropriate IP address of the parent node or child node:
  • A parent node will display both WAN and LAN IP addresses.
  • All other nodes are considered child nodes. A child node will display the same information as the parent node except for the WAN IP address.

Preferred method: Using the CA login

Step 1:
Download the firmware file to your computer. To download the firmware, choose your product below:

MX8500 Downloads
Velop WiFi 6 (MX4200, MX4200C, MX8000, MX8400C, MX12600) Downloads
Velop (WHW0301, WHW0302, WHW0303) Downloads
Velop Dual-Band (WHW01, VLP01) Downloads
Velop AX (MX5300, MX10600) Downloads

Step 2:
Log in to the Velop system’s LinksysSmartWiFi.com page.

For parent node:
  • Using your computer, open a web browser, go to www.linksyssmartwifi.com and enter your Linksys cloud account credentials. For instructions, click here.
  • You can also use the IP address assigned to the node such as 192.168.1.1.
For child node:
  • Check the LAN IP address of the node from the Linksys app.
  • Once you have the LAN IP address, enter “https://x.x.x.x/ca” (where the x.x.x.x represents the IP address of your child node) in the Address bar, then press [ENTER].

NOTE: A secured system-generated admin password will be created to secure your node when you set it up. For security reasons, this password will not be visible. For instructions on how you can change the password, click here.

Step 3:
Locate and click on the CA link at the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Alternative method: Using a specific link

The link to use will depend on your Velop system’s configuration status.

Before you begin:
  • Determine if your node is configured or if it is on factory default settings.
  • Determine your node’s IP address using the Linksys app. To do this, you must first access your Linksys app dashboard. For instructions on how to log in using an Android device, click here. For iOS, click here. Then, tap on the menu icon and go to Network Administration and look for IP Address.
NOTE: The default IP address of your node is 192.168.1.1. If your node‘s IP address is different, use that instead.
  • Make sure that your node is connected to the internet.

Step 1:
Download the firmware file to your computer. To download the firmware, choose your product below:

MX8500 Downloads
Velop WiFi 6 (MX4200, MX4200C, MX8000, MX8400C, MX12600) Downloads
Velop (WHW0301, WHW0302, WHW0303) Downloads
Velop Dual-Band (WHW01, VLP01) Downloads
Velop AX (MX5300, MX10600) Downloads

Step 2:
Launch a browser, enter the appropriate link as shown below (based on the status of your Velop system), then hit [ENTER].

For a configured node: Enter “http://x.x.x.x/fwupdate.html” (where the x.x.x.x represents the IP address of your node)

Once done rebooting, a configured node will show a solid blue light after the upgrade, which means it is back online. On the other hand, a node that is on factory default settings will display a solid purple light, which indicates that it is ready for setup.
