Accessing the web-based setup page of the WRE54G

This article will guide you on how to access the web-based setup page of your Linksys WRE54G Wireless-G Range Expander using a Windows®-based computer.

Click on the link that applies to your range expander:

If the WRE54G has not been configured yet
If the WRE54G is already working

IMPORTANT:  Before you proceed with the steps below, make sure that the range expander is plugged in to an electrical outlet and is powered ON.  The LED lights should light up.

If the WRE54G has not been configured yet

Step 1:
Connect a computer to the range expander using an Ethernet cable.  To learn how to configure the range expander manually, click here.

Step 2:
Assign a static IP Address to the computer and use the default IP Address of the expander as the default gateway.  For instructions on how to assign a static IP Address to a wired computer, click here.

QUICK TIP:  The default IP Address of the WRE54G is 192.168.1.240.

NOTE:  If you are using a wireless computer, connect to range expander wirelessly and then assign a static IP Address to the computer.  To learn how, click here.

Step 3:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer® or Safari® and then enter 192.168.1.240 in the Address bar.

Step 4:
A window will pop up prompting you for a User name and Password.  Leave the User name field blank, and enter “admin” in the Password field, then click OK.

The WRE54G’s web-based setup page will then open and you will now be able to configure its settings.

If the WRE54G is already working

Step 1:
Open a web browser like Internet Explorer® on a computer that is connected wirelessly and getting online with the range expander.

Step 2:
Enter the expander’s IP Address in the Address bar then hit [Enter].

NOTE:  The default IP Address of the range expander is 192.168.1.240.  If the router has assigned a different IP Address to it and you do not know what it is, check the router’s DHCP clients table.  To learn how, click here.

The WRE54G’s web-based setup page will then open and you will now be able to configure its settings.
