Assigning Static IP Address on a PrintServer

Assigning the Linksys PrintServer a static IP address can be done by either running the Setup Wizard or by changing the TCP/IP setting on the web-based setup page.  The PrintServer’s TCP/IP setting is set to Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) by default thus obtaining an IP address automatically from the DHCP server or router.  Make sure that the IP address you are going to assign to the PrintServer is within the IP range of your existing network.

NOTE:  It is recommended that the PrintServer is configured with a static IP address during initial setup to easily identify it within the network.  In assigning a static IP address on the PrintServer, you need to perform three steps:

This article will guide you in assigning Static IP address on a Linksys PrintServer using the web-based setup page.

Generating a print test page will help you determine the PrintServer’s current IP address.  To generate a test page from your Linksys PrintServer follow the steps below:

Step 1:
Press and hold the Reset button of the PrintServer for three seconds and then release it.

NOTE:  This will automatically send a diagnostic test page to the printer connected to the PrintServer.  If you’re having difficulties printing a diagnostic test page, click here.

Step 2:
Look for the IP address on the printed test page.

NOTE:  If you are using a Linksys router with a default IP address of 192.168.1.1, the PrintServer should be getting an IP range of 192.168.1.x as well indicating that it is properly obtaining an IP address from the network.

Windows®

Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.
Step 2:
Enter “http://IP address” in the Address bar then press [Enter].

NOTE:  In this example, we used "192.168.1.105" as the IP address obtained from the test page.  If you’re having difficulties accessing the PrintServer’s setup page, click here.

Step 3:
Leave the User name field blank, and enter your PrintServer’s Password.  Then click OK.

NOTE:  The default password is “admin”.

Mac OS X®

Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Safari.
Step 2:
Type "http://IP address" in the Address bar then press [Return].

NOTE:  In this example, we used "192.168.1.105" as the IP address obtained from the test page.  If you're having difficulties accessing the PrintServer's setup page, click here.

Step 3:
Leave the Name field blank, type in your PrintServer's password in the Password field then click Log In.

NOTE:  The default password is “admin”.

Step 1:

Step 2:
Select Use the Following IP Address and enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway information.

Step 3:
Click .

NOTE:  You can try printing a new test page to ensure that the static IP settings are properly saved on the Linksys PrintServer.  The next time you access the PrintServer’s web-based setup page, make sure to use the new IP address.
