Manually upgrading the firmware of the Linksys WiFi Router or X-series Gateway

Upgrading the Linksys WiFi router or Linksys X-series Gateway’s firmware will provide a quick fix for issues that users may have encountered. This includes more stable connectivity and functionality enhancements to the router.

Here are a few tips and tricks before you begin the upgrade process:

For stable connectivity and to prevent upgrade failures, make sure that your computer is connected to the router using an ethernet cable. Upgrading the firmware via WiFi may cause permanent damage to the router if the internet connection becomes unstable during the process.

Use another browser if your default browser doesn’t work. Alternatively, you can use another computer to perform the upgrade.

Temporarily disable any computer firewall to ensure that the upgrade will not be disrupted.

If your device has a storage link and a storage device is connected to it, make sure to safely remove the storage device before you upgrade the Linksys WiFi router or Linksys X-series Gateway’s firmware as this may result in data loss.

Make sure that you have created a backup configuration of your router settings for easy reconfiguration.

To upgrade the Linksys WiFi router or Linksys X-series Gateway’s firmware, you need to complete the following steps:

6. Reset your Linksys router then turn it OFF for 10 seconds before plugging it back in.

Resetting the router will cause it to delete all of its configured settings and change it back to factory default. You may now reconfigure the router’s settings to enable internet access and WiFi connection.

If you have created a backup configuration of your router settings before upgrading the firmware, you may choose to restore the settings automatically so you don’t have to manually reconfigure the router.
