Types of Ethernet Cable used when Connecting a Switch to Another Switch

This article will provide you with information regarding which type of cable should be used to connect a Linksys switch to other devices.

NOTE:  All devices mentioned here are compatible with CAT5, CAT5e and CAT6 Ethernet cables.

For the SE1500, SE2500, and SE2800, you may use either straight-through or crossover Ethernet cable because of the auto MDI/MDI-X cable detection feature of the devices.

For the older models EZXS16W, EZXS88W, EZXS55W, EG008W, and EG005W use a crossover Ethernet cable when connecting the switch to another switch and use a straight-through cable when connecting the switch to a router or a computer.
