Setting up the Router and the PrintServer

This article will guide you on how to install your Linksys Router and Linksys PrintServer using the Setup Wizard in order to connect your printer to the Home Network.

NOTE:  You can install your router with or without Internet connection depending on your Home Network setup. In this article, you are setting up your router without Internet service.

Step 1:
Insert the Setup CD into the CD-ROM drive.  The software will load automatically.

Step 2:
To begin the installation, click Start Setup.

Step 3:
Choose your preferred language for the installation then click Next.

Step 4:
Read the Software License Agreement and click the I Accept this agreement checkbox.  Click Next to proceed.

Step 5:
The Setup Wizard will check the connection and the network status. Once completed, click Next.

Step 6:
The Setup Wizard will guide you through the physical installation of the router.  Follow the on screen instructions.

 

 

 

 

Step 7: 
Wait for the Setup Wizard to finish configuring the router.  Once completed, click Next.

Step 8:
After the setup went through successfully, click Next to close the Setup Wizard.

Installing the PrintServer

Before configuring the PrintServer, you need to have the following settings from your Linksys router:

• Wireless Network Name (SSID)
• Wireless Security or Network Key

Follow the instructions below to install the PrintServer.

NOTE: Before running the Setup Wizard CD, make sure that the PrintServer is connected to the router and the printer.

Step 1:
Insert the Setup CD into the computer’s CD-ROM drive.  The Welcome page should appear automatically.

Step 2:
Click Setup Wizard.

Step 3:
The Setup Wizard will search for the PrintServer.  Once the Setup wizard detects the PrintServer, it will be listed on the table under the Select PrintServer section.  Select your PrintServer and click Next.

NOTE:  If this is the first time you have run the Setup Wizard, make sure that List only new (unconfigured) Print Servers is selected and that your PrintServer is listed by its default server name.  If you have previously configured the PrintServer, select List all compatible PrintServer.

Step 4:
Type in the PrintServer’s default password once the PASSWORD pop-up window appears.  Click Enter afterwards.

NOTE:  The PrintServer’s default password is “admin”.

Step 5:
You may change the Device Name and Domain Name settings on the Basic Settings page, depending on your preference.  Afterwards, click Next.

Step 6:
On the IP Settings page, select the correct IP settings and click Next.     

NOTE: If your network uses a router that automatically assigns IP addresses, select Automatically obtain an IP address (DHCP). If you need to assign the PrintServer a static IP address, select Set IP configuration manually, and enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway in the fields provided.

Step 7: 
Enter the PrintServer’s default password in the Current Password field on the Set PrintServer’s Password page.  Enter a new password in the New Password field, and re-enter in the Verify Password field. Click Next.

NOTE: The PrintServer’s default password is “admin”.

Step 8:
On the Wireless Settings page, enter the Wireless Network Name (SSID) of your Router.  Select the Channel and the Network Type as well and click Next.

NOTE:  Since you are using a router to connect your PrintServer to you Home Network, select Infrastructure in the Network Type field.

Step 9:
On the Wireless Security Settings page, select a level of WEP encryption which could be either 64 Bit Keys or  
128 Bit Keys.  Enter a Passphrase as well to automatically generate a WEP key.

NOTE:  If you would like to enter your WEP key manually, leave the Passphrase field blank and enter the WEP key on the next page.

These settings should be in sync with the router settings. If you have enabled WPA or WPA2 personal Wireless Security, enter your WPA shared key on the given field.  To learn more about your router's wireless security settings, click here

Step 10:
On the Confirmation page, ensure that your settings are correct.  Click Yes to save your new settings.

Step 11:
Click User Install to install the PrintServer’s driver on the Congratulations page.

Step 12:
Follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 13: 
Once the driver is installed, the Setup Complete window will appear.  Ensure that the Configure Print Driver now checkbox is selected.  Click Finish to end the driver installation and begin the driver configuration.

Step 14: 
Double-click the Print Driver Setup icon on your desktop.

Step 15:
The Information pop-up window will appear.  Read the contents thoroughly then click OK.

Step 16:
On the Printer Port Setup page, select a printer port then click Next.

Step 17:
Select the printer and click the Connect button to associate the printer with your selected printer port.
