1. What is the Linksys RE6300 AC750 Boost Wi-Fi Range Extender?
 
The Linksys RE6300 AC750 Boost Wi-Fi Range Extender is a plug-in range extender that can easily increase the range of your home Wi-Fi network.  The single Gigabit ethernet port allows a wired ethernet device, such as a computer or media server, to be bridged to the main Wi-Fi router.  The Linksys RE6300 also offers the option to use it as a wired range extender (Access Point mode) or a wireless range extender (Range Extender mode).

3. What are the parts of the Linksys RE6300?
 
The Linksys RE6300 has the following parts:
  • Ports – One 10/100/1000 Fast ethernet port
  • Lights – Power / WPS and ethernet (link/activity)
  • Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) button
  • Reset button
  • Two non-detachable antennas

The internal AC / DC power supply of the Linksys RE6300 is 100 – 240 V (0.5 A, 50 / 60 Hz).
 
6. What are the lights on the Linksys RE6300 and what do they indicate?
 
The Linksys RE6300 has a Power light and an ethernet light.  The ethernet light lights up when the extender is connected and active.  The light blinks when the extender is sending or receiving data over the ethernet port.
 
The Power / WPS light indicates the following:
  • OFF – There is no power on the range extender.
  • Blinking Green / Yellow – The range extender is starting up, resetting to factory defaults, upgrading its firmware or WPS connection is in process.
  • Solid Green / Yellow – The range extender is ready to use.
  • Solid Orange / Red – There is a weak connection with the router.
  • Blinking Orange / Red – The range extender is not connected to the router or other network.
QUICK TIP:  If your Linksys RE6300’s light is Solid Orange / Red, unplug the extender and move it closer to the router.  If it is flashing red, unplug the extender then move it closer to the router and then reconnect the extender to your network.
 
7. What are the product requirements of my Linksys RE6300?

SETUP & INSTALLATION
 
1. What are the requirements in setting up the Linksys RE6300?
 
Before setting up the Linksys RE6300, you will need the following:
  • Existing Wi-Fi network
  • Current Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password
  • Ethernet cable if using the Linksys RE6300 in Access Point mode
  • Computer with a supported browser
2. Do I need to install a setup software on my computer?
 
No.

3. How do I set up the Linksys RE6300?

4. Can I set up the Linksys RE6300 with a smart mobile device?

5. Can I set up my Linksys RE6300 using the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS)?  If so, how?

6. What is the default IP address and password of the Linksys RE6300?
 
The default IP address of the Linksys RE6300 is 192.168.1.1 and the default password is admin
 
QUICK TIP:  Once your extender is already configured you will need to look for the IP address in your router’s DHCP table.  To know how to do this, click
 here.  In this case, you may also easily access the web-based setup page of the Linksys RE6300 by entering “http://extender.linksys.com” in the Address bar or its friendly name “RE6300-xxx”, where xxx are the last three characters of its MAC address.
   
7. Can the Linksys RE6300 also extend the 5 GHz network of my dual-band router?
 
Yes.  The Linksys RE6300 automatically extends both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network of dual-band routers once you set it up.
 
8. How do I reset my Linksys RE6300?
 
Press and hold the Reset button of your Linksys RE6300 for 10 seconds to reset the range extender to its factory defaults.

9. What are the two setup modes of my Linksys RE6300?

The Linksys RE6300 can be set up in two modes, Wired Range Extender Access Point mode (requires an ethernet cable connected to your existing network) and Wireless Range Extender mode.

10. How do I identify what mode the Linksys RE6300 is in?

After setup, access the Linksys RE6300’s web-based setup page to view the updated top header name. 
 
NOTE:  If the Linksys RE6300 is on Access Point mode, the top header will read Dual Band Wireless Access Point.  If it is on Range Extender mode, the top header will read Dual Band Wireless Range Extender.

11. How do I switch from Access Point mode to Range Extender mode?

FIRMWARE UPGRADE
 
1. How do I upgrade the firmware of the Linksys RE6300?
 
There are two ways to upgrade:  either as an Auto-upgrade or manually upgrading the file.  For detailed instructions on how to do these, click here.
 
WIRELESS CONNECTION & SECURITY
 
1. Does the Linksys RE6300 support simultaneous dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz)?
 
Yes.  

2. Which wireless connection standards and frequencies are supported by the Linksys RE6300?
 
The Linksys RE6300 supported standards are 802.11b802.11g802.11n802.11a, and 802.11ac.  It also supports the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies simultaneously.
 
3. What is the maximum Data Rate speed for each band?
 
The maximum Data Rate speed for the 2.4 GHz band is 300 Mbps and the maximum Data Rate for the 5 GHz band is 433 Mbps.

4. What wireless security modes do the Linksys RE6300 support?
 
The Linksys RE6300 supports the following wireless security modes:
  • Access Point mode supports WPA2 Personal and WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode.
  • Range Extender mode supports WPA2 PersonalWPA2/WPA Mixed Mode and WEP.

NOTE:  WEP is no longer supported in the Access Point mode since it is not secure.  WEP is supported in the Range Extender mode to keep the compatibility with the upstream access point.
  
5. What is the default Wi-Fi name (SSID) of my Linksys RE6300?
 
The default SSID of your Linksys RE6300 is Linksys Extender Setup – xxx, where xxx are the last three digits of the range extender's MAC address.  
 
6. How can I check if the Linksys RE6300 is connected to my existing Wi-Fi network?
 
To check if the Linksys RE6300 is connected to your network, access the range extender’s web-based setup page.  Then, click WLAN Statistics under Status then check the Network Name (SSID).  Your Wi-Fi name should be shown there.

7. Can I change the Extended Wireless Settings of my extender?
 
Yes.  The Extended Wireless Settings feature of your Linksys RE6300 is the wireless link between the range extender and the wireless clients.  By default, the range extender follows the wireless settings of your router.  To learn how to change the Wi-Fi name, click here.

8. I have MAC filtering in my network.  Where can I locate the MAC address of my Linksys RE6300 to add to my MAC filtering list?
 
Access your range extender’s web-based setup page then go to Status > WLAN Statistics.  Use the MAC address labeled Seen by Upstream AP when your device is on Range Extender mode.  However, when the Linksys RE6300 is in Access Point mode, there is no display for this field as it is not needed since the product is wired into the network.

NOTE:  The MAC address printed at the back of the extender is for the ethernet port, NOT the wireless radio.  


9. What is Cross Band technology and does my Linksys RE6300 support it?
 
Yes, the Linksys RE6300 supports Cross Band technology.  This technology maximizes simultaneous use of both bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) for high speed data transfer and uninterrupted streaming and gaming.  For more information, click here.
     
10. Can I tell which access point or wireless router my extender is connected to if I have multiple wireless routers or access points in my network?
 
To know which access point your Linksys RE6300 is connected to, access the range extender’s web-based setup page.  Once there, click WLAN Statistics under Status then check the AP MAC address section.  Take note of this address as this is the access point your Linksys RE6300 is connected to.

1. Can I connect multiple wireless devices to my Linksys RE6300 like my router or access point?
 
Yes, the Linksys RE6300 acts as an extension to your router or access point so you can connect multiple devices to it.

3. Do I need to position the antennas a certain way for my home?

TROUBLESHOOTING
 
1. What should I do when I cannot get the Linksys RE6300 connected to the router or access point?
 
Here are some things you can do to check the position of your router and extender:
  • Make sure you are using the same Wi-Fi name and password as your existing wireless router or access point.
  • For first-time setup, you may need to place the extender closer to the router.  After you’ve set up your extender, you can unplug it and move it to the final location.
  • To reduce signal obstructions, try alternate locations for the router and extender.
  • Avoid placing the router and extender near metal objects, masonry walls, and reflective surfaces such as glass or mirrors.
  • Avoid placing the router and extender near other electronics that may cause signal interference.
  • If you’re using WPS to connect, wait until the WPS indicator stops blinking before trying to make the connection again.
  • Properly position the range extender's antennas.

2. What should I do when I cannot access the Linksys RE6300?
 
If you cannot access the Linksys RE6300, try any of the following troubleshooting methods:
  • Powercycle the extender.
  • Move the extender closer to your router.
  • Look up your extender’s IP address on your router’s DHCP table and try to ping it.
  • Connect your computer to the extender’s LAN port and attempt to access it via the default IP address and check the wireless settings.
  • Reset extender and go through the setup again.

3. What should I do when I experience intermittent connection issues when connected to the Linksys RE6300?
 
Ensure that your range extender is getting at least 50% of your router’s Wi-Fi signal and is located midway between your router and the area without Wi-Fi.  To check your range extender’s signal, access its web-based setup page and click Status > WLAN Statistics > Signal Strength.  For instructions on how to check and verify your computer’s wireless connection, click here.
