Setting up the Linksys RE6400 BOOST WiFi Range Extender is easy with its browser-based setup feature. There’s no need for an installation software or setup CD.

You have an active WiFi connection.
- You know your existing WiFi settings (WiFi name and WiFi password / security key). For instructions on how to check for them, click here.

The Linksys RE6400 is plugged into a power outlet and the light is blinking orange.
Using a computer or a mobile device, connect your device to the range extender's default WiFi name, which is Linksys Extender Setup–xxx. The xxx represents the last three characters of the Linksys RE6400’s MAC address and can be found on the label at the back of the device.
NOTE: You can find the WiFi MAC address of your range extender in its web interface. Go to Status > WLAN Statistics > Extender MAC address. For detailed instructions, click here. For the Linksys RE6400 v1, the MAC address printed at the back of the extender is for the ethernet port. For the Linksys RE6400 v2, the MAC address printed on the label is for the 2.4 GHz radio.

On your mobile or web browser, type in "http://extender.linksys.com" or "192.168.1.1" in the Address bar then press [Enter].

Select your WiFi.
NOTE: If your WiFi is also using a 5 GHz band, you should see it with the 2.4 GHz band.

QUICK TIP: If you have a hidden SSID, scroll all the way down the list and click Manually Enter Network Name and Password. Otherwise, wait until it detects your WiFi.

Enter your WiFi password in the field, then click Next.

You will be prompted to configure the extended wireless network that the range extender will be broadcasting. Change the settings as you prefer or leave the defaults as is, then click

Step 8:
Click Next if the Spot Finder indicates that the Linksys RE6400's location is Just right. This feature determines the signal strength between your range extender and your router. If your range extender is Too far or Too close, relocate it accordingly, then return to Step 1.

Step 9:
Create an admin password to secure your Linksys RE6400. You may also add a password hint.

You should now have set up your Linksys RE6400.
